I have a Zepto Mythos G15 with 2.4GHz cpu and an Nvidia 9600GT. I want to play Mafia II on this laptop but with all settings at minimum and resolution at 1280 x 1024 the game isnt smooth.

Is it possible to put a better GPU into this laptop or would it be too much for the powersupply?

I wouldn't count on it... Not only is it a lot of work getting a MXM GPU and installing it, but the BIOS also need to support it, i believe.. All, in all, it's a mess.

It was worth asking. It doesnt matter much anyway. I have a gaming desktop computer with a GTX280 and quad core CPU. This laptop is great but I need better graphics and a black case. Im not too fond of this all white.

Getting a new laptop seems like the only solution there.

You can upgrade the GPU, as long as the BIOS can support it, and ofcourse the thermal design of the laptop otherwise your going to need some extra cooling too.
A 9600GT is pretty good IMO. I got a 8400m GT in a sony that played NFS prostreet and undercover with more than a few settings maxed. Have you tried reformatting the laptop?
If i remember correctly i could play crysis on low/medium settings. Try overclocking it for better performance before upgrading.

I have a good laptop cooler here which helps a lot with keeping this thing cool. I am after doing a clean install of windows this morning and just done a benchmark with Mafia II. With all settings at minimum with resolution at 1680 x 1050 I get max 90FPS and a minimum of 1.1FPS. Averaging at 15FPS. Most of the time in the benchmark I saw an FPS of below 30FPS. It wasnt smooth at all.

Ive been running GPUZ while benchmarking and the GPU is under heavy load but its showing it running in PCIExpress 1.1 mode and showing that it has PCIExpress 2.0 support. Is this laptop just PCI Express 1.1 or is it a driver problem. I am running NVidia 259.32.

[EDIT] I am going to try the latest NVidia 258.96 laptop driver. The driver I am using is a desktop driver with a modified inf to run on laptops.

My 9500m GS, 9600m GT, 9800m GTS and FX 3700M all ran in 1.1 mode.

I tried to change to 2.0, but it didn't work.

I don't think these MXM cards support 2.0.

If your notebook has an mxm 2.1 type II slot, there isn't much better than an 9600m GT.

The only upgrade I can think of that might be worth it is maybe an ATI 4670.

If you have an MXM type III or HE or even type IV slot, then you have better options.
But that would probably mean you would need a new heatsink or would need to mod your heatsink because the screws aren't going to be in the right place.

I dont know what MXM slot is in this laptop. Its not too important to upgrade. I will be upgrading my desktop soon anyway. I will wait until next year to upgrade my laptop.

The 9650 isnt much of an upgrade to the 9600. I will stick with I have for now.

and neither is the GT130M, but the cooling solution in the G15 series is tailored for those GPU's and can't handle much more heat that what those give out.
