LOL, I see alot of folks saying, "Too Big!", but just how much bigger are we really talking over a 17" Whitebook? :) I guess since I already own both 17" & 18.4" notebooks, I don't really understand this 'Too Big' concept. For me the extra screen real-estate is actually kinda nice. :D

I think the W90's size is designed to allow superior cooling (as denoted in the article) of the 4870's and CPU.

Just a little something to consider...... and 4870's are guaranteed, and the W90 should be released very soon..... perhaps next 4-5 days..... just in time for the new 9.2 drivers. :D

well i have the 9262, im not too sure how much bigger that is, is there like a screenshot somewhere that show the size difference between the 2?

i heard theres a 17inch version, is that true? what are the other differences between them?

    Yes, the 17" is the W90V, and it's dimensions will be; 44.3 x 32.8 x 5.3 cm (W x D x H)..... and the dimensions of the 18.4 W90Vp will be; 44.3 x 32.8 x 6.3 cm (W x D x H).

Problem is, the 17" model will come standard with ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 3850 , 1024MB VRAM, and I don't know that it is feasible to swap to the 4870's. This question would have to be directed to a custom ASUS reseller..... and even if possible, since this model is thinner, cooling may then become an issue.

I am going to jump all over the 18.4 model.....not too big for me! :D

there may be some merit to that but the extra space for cooling may be the deal breaker

Not as a pre-configured model..... again, you would need to query one of the custom ASUS resellers to even see if it is possible. Besides this thickness difference, the 17" W90V may have a different MXM type/slot as well.

What does it matter though..... the only difference in the dimensions of the 18.4" model, is in thickness only. If you go with the 18.4" W90Vp, and you will have the 4870's, standard. :)

Not sure exactly..... you own a 9262, correct? Compare it to the thickness I indicated on the previous page.

My thought is that the W90 would be thicker by design, since it will be accomodating the new 4870's, and has extra cooling fans. :)

yeah i have a 9262, not sure how thick it is though
but the 9262 is quite thick with 3 fans and 3 hds and room for 2 9800m GTX

OK, that said, it sounds as though they may be comparable. Check you 9262's dimensional specs online..... or perhaps grab a tape measure. :D

    here they are: 15.5" x 11.75" x 2.35"
im guessing they are in Centimetre's does that seem right?

EDIT: nah doesnt seem right for centimetres has to be inches, whats that in centimetres?

    the w90 is 44.3 x 32.8 x 6.3 cm

    Here are the numbers

    15.5" X 11.75" X 2.35" = 39.37 x 29.85 x 5.97 cm

    44.3 x 32.8 x 6.3 cm = 17.45" x 12.91" x 2.49"

No idea....obviously, XoticPC will be carrying it as he states so in the thread. Knowing Justin over there, he won't talk until it's a done deal and the contracts are signed.

Just gimme a 150watt spotlight and a rubber hose and I'll get it out of him....

I'm going to take a WILD guess here..and say that the model is being refreshed. It will likely still be offered by OCZ, but as a different design.. Maybe flex is working on a new chassis which can support the 4k series, and also support Extreme CPUs without BSOD'ing cause of a weak power supply. I'm speculating of course, but I'm at a loss for who else would provide this type of setup. Hmm.. maybe Flex is gonna be the direct ODM, and supply all the resellers directly :) Anyhow, if the timeline is end of March..then it would make sense the 4k would be offered, considering Justin claims that it will be the continuation/replacement of this model.. I'm still considering that new asus :D

Would the fact that you can get it for only $2200 from Newegg with both 4870s and a T9600 help things? :D

I know, that was off topic, but on topic slightly, I would have liked the 4870s in the Asus to use GDDR5 instead of GDDR3. Seems like AMD/ATi wasn't kidding when they stated there would be multiple versions of the M98 card, giving manufacturers more liberty to design the cards. Asus in this case, deviated a good bit as I don't even see any crossfire cables bridging the new cards inside the W90.

Yeah. Some of these games I haven't even seen being tested by mainstream reviewers. The Bioshock scores look amazing and beats a desktop 9800 GT SLi (though it doesn't really matter as they're both over 60 fps). Far Cry 2 looks like it is suffering from the lack of the hotfix or the same problem that plagued the Whitebook before the 8.11 (or was it 8.12?) drivers, because that is around what an MSi GT725 scores at 1680x1050.

Ya some of the benchmark scores were rather lacking, but this machine is Soo tempting :). Going to wait a few more days to see some real results.hopefully someone with tweaking skills and the understanding of ATI drivers gets a hold of this machine and puts it through its paces.
