I've just removed the Turbo memory module from my laptop in an effort to reduce the stuttering I get in game play. After removing it I uninstalled the Intel matrix storage drivers and manager and disabled DFOROM support in the BIOS. Three reboots later and a good defrag, and my system is now much speedier. FPS has gone up by about 15% with very, very little stuttering, so I'm much happier now. I wonder why the module seemed to cause the problem? Drivers maybe, faulty module, or just bad idea all round?.

Oh yes. I feel like I've got what I wanted in the first place. Hopefully someone will look into what is at fault here. Incidentally, I didn't have the stuttering problems until I updated the drivers for the Turbo Memory last year. It's only now that I'm back to good again that this occurred to me. Hindsight... Wonderful isn't it.

Wow thats odd that your performance went up after shutting down AHCI. Pretty much every test that I have done and read up on has shown that AHCI increases anything related to the hard disk by about 15%.

I know. I thought it would decrease performance. Might be bios related. Might be that I had a duff Turbo memory module. By the way I didn't shut AHCI down, I've just disabled the DFOROM I've still got the SATA set to Enhanced which is what I thought AHCI was, (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong )

No your ok...I figure you would be sick of the BSODS by just shutting the AHCI driver down in any case....so it must be good still.

    Morning,

I'm about to try the same deal, removing the turbo memory. Is it necessary
to physically remove it in order to disable it? That is, I'm planning on sending
my laptop in for service and would like not to have any reason for Zepto to
say my warranty is a bust. Thoughts welcome!

I would start by disabling the DFOROM support in the BIOS.

That should disable the Turbo Memory (check what you see in Device Manager before and after this change).

Excellent, thanks. I'll try this around lunchtime when I've got a nice
    beer to steady the nerves!
