Can any body tell me whats the IR for in NP2092?
Can i use an after market remote to power up, control functions or volume in media players in it without a TV tuner?
    Thanks in advance

And to go further into details, it's only working with the TV-Tuner remote.

Does that mean that you can't use an universal remote?

Well that's a good question, I think so because several people on this forum reported different models for the TV-Tuner, so yes it will work.
But you need an application which will detect the signal and transfer this.

    Let me recap:
The IR is not connected to any hard ware inside the laptop. When you attach the TV tuner it gets hooked up to IR by hardware & software.
    Is that right?!

The IR is active and is connected to the system if there is a TV Tuner or not. The main use of it is with the remote control for the TV Tuner. I am not familiar with any alternate remotes that may or may not work with it.

I would be inclined to say that an universal tv remote control would work, I guess we could start a thread and ask members who have a TV tuner to try it and let us know.

Yeah..& which software can we use to get IR up & running. one of the points i liked about XPS M1530 is that it has its own remote. Getting a good screen was the main repellent :)

This the same with the EL80? I did ask a while back but didnt see any replies at the time. I do have remotes and programs but do not have the built in TV turner. its no big deal to me if it works or not was just hoping it would or if there was a way to get it to work.

Why don't you try some of those universal remotes?

well i have the generic MCE remote that came with the expressbus tv tuner, it had its own IR reciever that would pick up all IR signals. i also have one that is from my friends laptop but thats a toshiba remote.

If the device is just hardware and needs software to decode the signals then shouldnt the software be the only thing limiting the remotes? my main thing is that my system (other then in task manager) does not see the CIR

Ah, I thought you said that the remote had an IR receiver.

You may try to re-install the CIR drivers.

i was wondering this too. would you have to get a "learning" remote? or find the manufacturer of X hardware to program a remote?

Why don't you just try an universal control remote and let me know if it works.
