I was looking for a new laptop and came across the Brand name ITC. I have never heard of ITC but the specs on this are very good for the price. Maybe too good for the price. Has anyone heard of them before.

I don't know them...does your government have an agency that tracks businesses? Surely they would have a report on them...

hmm, unless you're on a major budget, I always say that buying brand name and getting a good warranty is the way to go.

I stumbled across the same site Grumpy did while I was looking around researching the prices for notebooks after my ancient desktop PC died. From what I've been able to gather after scouring the net for reviews of the ITC brand, it seems that while it is not nearly as well known as Dell, Acer, etc. it does appear to be respectable. I've checked through all the computer magazines I could find, and each issue there was a review of an ITC notebook amongst the other well-known brands. The reviews, while brief, were positive about the ITC products and assuaged my apprehension about this being an untrustworthy brand.
The only thing I could find regarding the company p4laptops.com.au on the other hand, was this thread. There seemed to be a few customer acclaims about the company, but I don't trust them enough to believe them. The specs for the notebooks they are selling on their site are the best I've found available here in Australia though, and while not the cheapest, they do reasonable prices. Dell's best (smaller display size and less dedicated video memory) is approximately $400 cheaper for similar specifications.
So far the ITC Millennia 7200 is at the top of my list, though I'm a bit nervous of P4Laptops.com.au. Is there anyone who has actually dealt with this company and can give an opinion of their service?

I'd be very leary of the service and would make that the number one concern. I got a Northgate a few years ago because of similar things, great specs, aweseome price, but the service was horrible and the machine was pretty bad too. Granted for 600.00 at the time it was still a great deal so it wasn't too bad, it just wasn't what they were advertising or what I was expecting to get.

    Hi,

I've dealt with both P4Laptops and ITC directly while living in Sydney, I purchased a Millenia 4201 from P4Laptops which is actually made by a company called Uniwill - I complained that it was underperforming (about 2/3 of the performance I was expecting) and P4Laptops listened and quickly replaced it with a free upgrade to the next model the Millenia 4300 (also a Uniwill machine - the 258SA0) which performed brilliantly. Unfortunately four months later the 4300 just wouldn't turn on any-more - ITC took it back straight away and promptly replaced the motherboard, cpu and me moemory, but by this time the Millennia 7200 was about to be released and I was keen to upgrade - so ITC offered me an awesome trade-in deal on the 4300 such that it didn't cost me any more than if I'd bought the 7200 to begin with. The Millennia 7200 is made by Clevo (model# D870P) and sold in the US as a Sager 8790 - it is undoubtedly the most powerful, the most feature-packed and beautifully designed and built laptop I've ever encountered in 15 years as an enthusiast. It beats ANY brand-name laptop (Toshiba, IBM, DELL, HP, Apple) for both performance and build-quality - hands down! I've now dealt with ITC for numerous other add-ons to the 7200 (wireless Turbo-G, TV Tuner, bluetooth etc.) and similarly - in 15 years of being a computer enthusiast (7 years as a professional) I have never encountered better customer support, service or professionalism from any IT company PERIOD (no I don't work for them by the way). So there you have it, ITC Millennia 7200 - you'd be crazy NOT to buy one!

Has anyone got the ITC website to work? www.itchannel.com.au

All the links seem to go to a /# and do not work.. ive tried from 3 different PCs on different networks (work, home, friend).

Ive emailed them and got no response.

For those who have one, or have seen one, whats the screen like? Im coming from having a Toshiba with the CSV screen, much like the Sony Xbrite technology... plus have been using UXGA resolution.

Has anyone tried the TV tuner? Is it digital or analog? remote? PAL/NTSC? etc. no details ive found as yet.

I sent an email to P4 after reading comments above, and will see what they can do... But based on other vendors not holding my breath for a reply (go forum!)

On a time constraint to buy a laptop by end of June (Aus financial year...) and can't get a response from a vendor. Really like the Sony A series with 17" WUXGA and 2GHz chip but not officially available in Aus... what to do... ITC 7200 might be next best...

    Hello All,

I purchased an ITC Millenia 7000 from www.p4laptops.com.au late last year and have had no troubles at all. www.p4laptops.com.au are just a reseller on behalf of www.itchannel.com.au. They delivered the laptop within 4 days of my order which was great.

The 17 inch widescreen is sharp and very easy on the eyes. I also purchased the TV tuner card which I am not totally happy with. I had had it (or maybe the software) lock up the OS (XP Pro) on the very odd occasion. The Tv tuner is analog which is a little bit of a pain. The Tv tuner has also locked the OS on the odd occasion.

The laptop also has a large fan on the bottom which when on a desk is very close to the desk surface. Being so close means that the fan is quite noisy when sucking through the air. Another intersting thing is that the power pack also has a fan which I have never seen on my previous laptops.

All in all the company has been great to deal with and the laptop has been much better than anything on the market at a similar price. I know I will be going back to them for my next latop.

    Cheers,
    Craig

Well ive done a bit more research, still not entirely sure on this one... Been talking to P4 laptops (ITC do not respond to customer queries...) and got the following as a potential spec:

    p4 3.4
1Gb ram (DDR400) or 2048 (still no price for 2Gb)
WSXGA (You have to ask for it WXGA standard, + some cash)
<Note: can't seem to get any details on the brightness or contrast for these screens, any help out there?>
    2 x 60Gb 7200rpm drives in RAID
802.11G mini pci (p4 don't list it as turbo, who knows)
    bluetooth internal
    pal tv tuner with remote
spare ac adapter (one less thing to carry when it moves)
external usb floppy drive (so you can reinstall RAID)
4x +/-R burner (again, have to ask for it and more $)
    And a 3 yr warranty.

Still, Id prefer the Sony A series with the 17" display, but us Aussies cannot get them yet and I have to buy before end of month (i.e. a few days.....)

Looks like the ITC might be the go.

what about an acer or asus, they should have a lot of models available in your part of the world? I'd be wary of ITC if they wont even answer your questions, before they have your money, what will they do once they already have it?

    I have an ITC Mellinnia 7200, P4 3.4Ghz, 17in screen 1440x900, 1G ram, 4x DVD/CD burner, 9700, 2 x 80Gig Hdd hardware RAID, 11g, Bluetooth, tv tuner, etc...

    I have had this laptop for 2 months now.. and I love it... It's a BEAST... it's soo Fast 3dBenchmark 2001 = 12,300.

It's great as a mobile games machine...

Yes, it is a little noisy once the fan's cut in... But what do you expect from a power house like this. Fast=Heat.

But you only notice the fans in extremly quiet enviroments... (in the office I never hear them.. because of Air Cond. noise and other background noise in the typical office).. I only noticed the fans when I was at home and it was dead quiet...

I have not had a single problem with this laptop... it's made by clevo and it's very strong.... with a nice keyboard...

This laptop craps all over the DELL's from reliability build Quality. I know I have two other dell laptops (Latitude D600, and 9100)

Two other mates now have the same laptop as mine... after seeing mine they went and bought one.... Both of them are very happy with it too....

At the end of the day... it's (currently) the fastest laptop on the market... espcially for mobile gaming etc....

I Highly recomend this laptop. (Take my advice or leave it, it's up to you).

BTW: the support from ITChannel is great...

    Well,

After some more hunting around, ive got an invoice and made payment (Aus. end of financial year joy).

My advice for anyone looking at the Clevo based D870P in Aus is to look at pioneer computers - they also sell this model.

P4 were quite good in responding to email queries but impossible to reach by phone (always a recorded message) and did not respond to requests for them to call me.

However, email service was good. Then P4 at the last moment indicated they were unable to supply some components (like the 4x burner)

When I compared prices, P4 were not willing to drop their price at all for an identical product from Pioneer vs the ITC they sell so they lost the sale of 2 laptops (co-worker bought one as well). The difference was significant.

    Here is the spec now:
    p4 3.4 Prescott
    2Gb DDR 400 ram
    WSXGA+ 17" screen
    2 x 60gb 7200 HDD Raid 0
    256mb ATI 9700
    Internal Bluetooth
    802.11g mini pci
    subwoofer
    12 cell battery
    7-in-1 card reader
    4x +/- DVD burner
USB floppy (a must if you get RAID!)

    Should be fun...

Did you mean 3dMark 2003, because 12,xxx is actually a rather poor score for a current system in the 3dMark 2001, I could get that with a 1.47 ghz AMD 1700 and a geforce 64mb 4200, in fact the last few times I had used it with that config I got 13,xxx with the latest drivers and could overclock the vid card and cpu to get around 16-17,xxx

Well, I am from Australia, Melbourne.

I am really glad I found about this thread, I've learnt a lot on ITC
Laptops as I am doing my extensive research because I am actually
a serious buyer and was planning to purchase the Mellinnia 7200 until
I discovered from this thread that the Mellinnia 7200 is sold in the US as a Sager 8790, I knew that it was made by Clevo (model# D870P)
but didn't know about the Sager.

I looked in Google for Sager 8790 and found the NP8790-S !!! wow

I am not entirely sure if the Mellinnia 7200 matches the exact specs
of the NP8790-S !, I think NP8790-S has more specs, anyway...

check out the price from this link !!!, I think I might actually get it from the US after all, go to this link here customize it and look the price

you definitely end up with more power/specs and almost the same price
as the Mellinnia 7200 if not way cheaper if you were to buy it from ITC in Australian Dollar!!!, please correct me if I am wrong.

    http://www.pcsonic.com/notebookconfigure.asp?pid=55

    Here is my customization:-
    17" Wide Viewing Angles
    Pentium® 4 Processor 3.4GHz with HT Technology
    2048MB PC3200 SDRAM – 2 DIMMS
60.0GB (5400rpm) Ultra DMA Hard Drive
4X DVD±R/RW Combo Drive [you can only get 2X dvd burner from ITC]
    Smart Li-Ion Battery
    Integrated 56K V.90 Internal Fax/Modem
    Integrated 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet LAN and 108Mbps Turbo Mode 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini-PCI Card
    Internal Bluetooth Wireless Module
    8 Cells Battery + TV-Turner w/Remote
    Integrated Video Camera
    7-in-1 Card Reader

    $3045 US Dollars ---> $4,267.20 AUD

Try to get That From ITC and see how much it will cost

    http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-m7200.htm

I ended up with something like $4,665.00 AUD From ITC with just 1GB Ram. and not even sure if you get everything else...

I am hoping I can even get it cheaper from other stores in the US I didn't look just yet but I will have to make sure I will get good service ofcourse.

Ok this may sound a little silly but one thing I didn't like is the big Sager logo next to the laptop keyboard...

I am also wondering if I can get it in silver color like the
ITC Millennia 7100 or just pure black.

I also notice I can either get the 12 Cells Battery or 8 Cells Battery + TV-Turner w/Remote can I still get the 12 Cells Battery + TV-Turner w/Remote as another option?

There is only one dealer in for ITC in Melbourne on Market St that I know of and he was not willing to negotiate a price, are there any other dealers you guys might be aware of in melbourne?

please share your thoughts as serious decisions are about to be made.

    Thanks

Ok, as someone who has just done the hard work in Melbourne, I hope I can help here (if not from what has already been written).

The notebook place on Market st cannot match P4 laptop prices for an ITC 7200 - I asked them and they were not interested, margin too small. At least they are honest!

No store has one that you can go and see in person, unfortunately, and they won't get one in just so you can have a look...

P4 laptops is an internet seller only but has some history and rep. in aus. However, they are still expensive. They *sometimes* have a 4x DVD burner, but when I last inquired (a week ago) they had none.

I would not recommend buying from overseas - your warranty work will kill you... picture cost of shipping plus time out of action etc - not worth it. Don't try to compare US to AUS prices - we get ripped off! Don't forget customs duties would also be applied if you bring it over here...

So, my advice: Pioneer Computers. They sell the same laptop - remember they are all CLEVO D870P made in Taiwan. My specced out laptop was > $1000 cheaper from Pioneer than from P4 and P4 would not negotiate any price. They have a good rep in aus and feature in best buy sections of PC mag etc quite often.

I was able to get the 12 cell battery + subwoofer + 7 in 1 card reader. For the Prescott 3.4, you need the 12 cell if you want a battery that works.. the 8 cell alledgedly won't provide enough juice, some USA Clevo sellers require you to get the 12 cell with this CPU for this reason. I did not get TV tuner - in aus go buy a USB hi def digital tuner for around same price and it will be alot nicer! (terrestrial digital). Plus, putting in tuner meant losing subwoofer - id rather have sub and card reader.

Since I first spoke to Pioneer, they have now updated their PDF for their 870P model to include SXGA and 2GB ram as available options...

Should be fun when it arrives anyway.

    hope that helps.

    Cheers,

    Lotus7

Opps sorry ok.... here are the figures...

    3dMark 2003 = 3500
    3dMark 2001 = 12200

That is a great score for 2003... my mates p4 3.4Ghz ATI 9600 only gets 2900

Hmmm, I doubt very much you're talking about the same spec CLECO here. you have to be very CAREFUL with PIONEER COMPUTERS, that you are actually getting what they say you are. It's simply not possible for them to be $1000 cheaper on that model you are talking about.

I have been through exactly the same process as you with both Pioneer and P4laptops, and P4laptops came out on top spec for spec with regards to price.

ALSO, take note of warranty. p4laptops (and through them ITC) offer a much more comprehensive warranty and this is a HUGE consideration when buying a laptop, which are more prone to component failure than desktop machines. ITC offer IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT warranty features, Pioneer Computers you have to return to base and wait for god knows how long.

I would definitely reccomend P4laptops for ther support, email support from PIONEER was often a single line, with yes or no answers. P4laptops guys offerred comprehensive details and beat out Pioneer for price for my spec Millennia 7200, which also helped them gain other sales through a friend, and a workmate who have been so impressed by my machine. Plus, P4 was able to deliver in 3 days flat, Pioneers said they could have 'most of that spec' withn 1-2 weeks and 'wasn't sure' on the display I wanted.

However, as with all deals, everyone has a different story to tell. Some are sorry, some are glad. It's not possible to make the right decision for you based on postings in a forum. You should compare and talk to both companies yourself, and then you will be able to make a reliable and informed decision.

PS - more advice here, DON'T go with the subwoofer option in any machine, the internal vibration from the sub has been known (in some postings I have read) to cause component failure. I mean what's the point of an internal sub, be smart about it and hook up to sub externally. The TV Tuner is good advice though, go USB - portable, and high-def.

Also, P4laptops has WSXGA+ super-glossy screen available for both their Millennia 7200 and 7100 series at a small upgrade price. Compare yourself, (but make sure you have the right components. It's easy to get things wrong then think you are getting a bargain, but it aint necessarily so) P4laptops is definitely cheaper than Pioneer Computers.

    Sager 8790
    ==========

I am honstly still not conviced why should I pay $1,500 AUD more for less specs its
really not fair...? I just don't understand why Australia Has to make everything more expensive compared to the big countries in this world like UK and US.

Anyway with regards to the warranty when buying from the US, its bit of a risk that I have to take.

I have a friend who purchased his laptop from the US and its not all that bad, its been shipped back and forth at least once, problems.

I am thinking of purchasing it from http://www.powernotebooks.com/ as they have good reseller ratings at http://www.resellerratings.com/ they have a link in the front page to that reseller I am hoping
    that's a good sign

    http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1980.html

The main issue that really concerns me is dead pixels, I have read the Sager waranty about dead pixels, its not that impressive... I wish I knew of a place where I can pay a little extra to guarantee no dead pixels like Hypersonic do with their laptops
    www.hypersonic-pc.com

I am just waiting for the next price drop that will occur in the US for this particular laptop and also I've been watching the US and AUD dollar ofcourse once everything is cool, that's when I'll make my move.

Untill then I'll be just continuing my research every day, and reading about people's experiences...

I am also searching for one of the best internal TV Tuner module out there for the clevo laptop maybe one that has also FM Radio and excellent quality in live recording, one that handles digital terrestrial, HDTV, etc... if anyone knows please let me know.

I am now a little concerned about the comment made by thepooch about the internal subwoofer causing vibration problems, I'll keep an eye for that one.

Feel free to bring your opinion forward.

    Thanks

    Wael

    Well,

Im now typing this message on a Pioneer versioned Clevo D870P.

Ive had some issues with Pioneer, its taken a few goes to get them to deliver the right thing and it took a long time to get delivery. However, price difference with P4 was > $1600 Aus.

Note that P4 stated they would not match the Pioneer price, subsequently ive been speaking directly to ITC who have indicated they would be willing to consider it. Note it took > 30 days for ITC to respond to an email though. At least they have updated their website now to remove stuff they no longer want to do (like talk to customers...)

    Laptop Specs:

    P4 3.4 Northwood
    WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)
    2 x 60gb 7200rpm Hitachi in Raid 0 [} :)]
    2 x 1Gb DDR 400 ram
    4 x -r/+r sony DVD burner

Playing Doom 3 on ultra quality at 1280 x 800 res - fantastic!
Use Omega drivers for video, be aware you want the ones based on the ATI 4.5 drivers, the 4.6 and 4.7 ones screw up video playback.

Impressions: its BIG! Watched a DVD on it, screen is (by viewers perspective) as big as the 68cm tv I have. Yes, its heavy - you expect that when you spec it up.

Maybe ill write a full review some time... after I stop scaring myself stupid in Doom 3!

    Cheers,

and i am typing this on a new

    ITC Millennia 7200
    Pentium 3.4 Northwood 800MHz FSB 512 L2 cache
    2x60 Gig 7200 RPM hards @ RAID0
    1 GIG DDR400 RAM
    256MB Radeon 9700 / 17” 1680x1050 WSXGA Super Glossy
    4X DVD±R Ram Drive

    XP Pro current updates

in sum: epic. makes co-workers drool w/envy. best build quality in a notebook i've seen yet. somewhat noisy but what do you xpect w/3 fans. good for building muscle strength when carrying it around. best screen i have ever seen.

oh, and P4Laptops were awesome, the fully configged unit was delivered in 4 biz days, before they had the chance to forward me the delivery tracking number. all thumbs up.

    Hi there,
Just saw today the Millenia 7150 P4 3.4 HT at harvey norman ! I tried Doom 3 and I have to admit I am very impressed by this notebook. Quality screen is awesome and Sony and Toshiba are not the only ones to have brighter screen anymore. Just a question though : how long lasts the battery on such a powerfull notebook ?
    Cheers,
    Surfnet, Gold Coast.

well, the bat. on my 7200 lasts about 45 min, w/wirels on.

now, anyone else notice the STRONG electric field generated by these muthus? i mean literally felt up to the elbows? makes me hesitant to ever put it on me actual lap as the family jewels have little desire to be cooked...

only other annoyance is that the 5.1 outs are on the front, since this is my primary mobile DAW, cabling gets messy. and the power supply makes a staticky noise, this is the 2nd one as ITChannel had a replacemet on my desk by 11 next morning after i made the call.

For those that are interested, there is an ITC 7200 at Harvey Norman in Holland Park, QLD (The big top shopping center). This is one big bugger of a notebook (and I too would be weary about cooking ones nuts).

For the record, I sent some emails to ITC last month after reading a review of the 7200 and got replies within a day.

I can't believe that I didn't even think to play with it at Harvey's!!!

I discovered the Millenium 7201 yesterday - the 7200 with the super glossy screen, 1680x1050 res - and it does look good. Currently looking at this as well as Dell 9100 (bloody ugly and small screen, although v hi-res) and new Acer Aspire. Main worry with Millenia was/is that it's not mainstream brand (for international warranties, etc, because I travel internationally a lot). If was using it totally within Oz however this reservation would disappear, particularly given wraps others have provided for ITC.

FYI - the place I saw it, for anyone who doesn't want to deal with p4laptops is Laptops Plus, Chinatown end of George St, Sydney (www.laptopsplus.com.au). I've had no dealings with this guy (typical sales person) in the past, so no recommendations either which way in this regard.

I would go for the Pioneer Computers version with the AMD64 Mobile processor. I won't get into the debate about Intel Vs AMD, however the AMD64 Mobile uses less power...aways a good thing in a beast like this.

I got the PIONEER Power Athlon 64 470K Notebook 3400, as I work for a Uni, Pioneer gave me a huge discount! Something which ITC won't do...

    Just my 2 cents.

    ITC Millennia 7201
    built-in webcam
    Pentium 3.4 800MHz FSB 512 L2 cache
    2x60 Gig 7200 RPM hards @ RAID0
    1 GIG DDR400 RAM
    256MB Radeon 9700 / 17” 1680x1050 WSXGA Super Glossy
    4X DVD±R Ram Drive
    XP Pro SP2
    Subwoofer, Wifi, Int. Bluetooth

waow, the screen blew me and my work colleagues away. performance is way enough for some sserious number crunching and the sound, thanks to subwoofer, has some nice mid ranges and bass.

I am 100% happy with my decision, got the p4laptop special for 4694 (salary sacrifice, pheow). p4laptop offered great service and ITC supported me with a RAID driver streamlined windows re-install CD.

    happy tweaker and customer :)

    Hi Guys,

I've owned an ITC 7200 for over a year now. Its been an EXCELLENT machine, until recently. I've been suffering from some type of graphics corruption when playing games like COD, CS:Source, BF2 ...etc...

The graphics are always fine for the first 1/2hr to 1hr, but then they go all weird. I think its probably a heating issue with the graphics card, but I just cant be sure. ITC support have walked me through opening the machine and cleaning out the different heat sinks..etc.. but no real luck.

Any suggestions, or has anyone else experienced anything similar on a M7200?

    Cheers
    Shaun

Anyone comment on the sound quality? This is somewhat important to me as I am wanting to use it when travelling for work, with headphones. I refust to buy a Dell due to the poor sound quality on all the work ones I've had (lot of noise thru the circuit even with no players open).

I'm looking at the new centrino M powered 8000 series. Looks awesome.
