What's the changelog for this version? I'm on 1.13, what's new since then? And how do I install it? I have the .zip file from Compal's website, do I just burn all the files so it's bootable?
Edit: it's there but password protected
-
Please do not post the password to the protected zip if you find it since they are there for a reason.

Do you know what is new with 1.16? I see no changelog on that site.
Edit again: nvm, it's in the bios zip folder (d'oh)
Edit 2: on a sidenote, bios 1.15 fixed this:
Known issues:
Modified:
1.Add Penryn C6/MTRR support.
2.Modify Thermal table for Penryn CPU.
3.Add ucode support for CPU ID 10676.
4.Verb table update for DTM test.
5.Add SVID/SSID for ICH8M LPC device.
6.Add 45B1 command to EC when penryn CPU was installed
But I thought IFL90 had no Penryn support? -
That is just a BIOS support. You still need the proper thermal IC(hardware) to support the Penryn processor.
Read the thread stickied for more information/updates.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=209720 -
How do I burn it? I just dragged the 4 files onto a CD and burnt, it didn't work.
-
Putting the BIOS files in a bootable USB drive is better. It has to be a bootable drive because you must flash the BIOS working on DOS environment. Look at other threads, someone else put a very detailed proccess to flash the BIOS.
-
Whether is a CD or an USB drive, you must press F12 while booting so you get the boot menu, then chose whatever is your bootable drive, the CD or your USB drive, I prefer the USB drive because is easier to save the files in it, compared to burning a CD.
-
I know how to load the boot menu and start it, the problem was getting it onto any form of bootable media. But no worries, Masterbw had an iso of 1.16 and send it, I'm on 1.16 now (it gave me BSOD after flashing because AHCI was enabled by default, disabled it and everything was fine)
-
Great, have you noticed any remarkable improvement using the 1.16?
-
Of course not, I just like having everything to be up-to-date.
-
I see, could you share Masterbw iso of 1.16 with me?
-
Direct Pull from Everest.
-
I have the BIOS installed without any issue.
Detected some impro..........
And system detected some Intel Device, forgot the HW device name but everything is working fine. -
That's good news, I have version 1.10 and I would like to install 1.16 but I'm afraid I will screw up the whole system.
-
It is free for downloading from official Compal website without any passwords:
http://www.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/index.htm
JFT02116.zip As it looks for now, IFL92 is the same IFL90 with bios 1.14+. Other way the BIOS versions would be different.
Edit, oh, I'm sorry it's bizcom version that is not password protected. I'm having serious instability here with 4965agn wifi adapter, will try to flash this on. The oddest thin that the same adapter works perfectly on EL80 with only to antennas in Draft N mode were it's not supposed to. :/ -
where is the iso?
-
Any one have the ISO for 1.16 ??? -
You can make a USB stick bootable, with a tool frm HP.
Search for the tool with the name HP USB TOOL.
Then extract the fiel you download to default folder copy the folder on the bootable USB stick and boot the machine with stick connected.
Press F12 at boot, and select the bootable USB devcice.
Then type in something like IFL00116.BAT the rest is auto going. -
I used the HP driver, but is asking me where are the DOS files. I don't seem to find a DOS folder, and the DOS files are not inside the Windows folder neither.
-
-
What vista do you have?
-
It looks like we have to extract the DOS files from another source, check this link: http://www.gamebeat.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1057
Windows vista actually emulate the DOS commands, so it doesn't have them as per the windows help database. -
The easy way to get an USB stick to boot and it's working like an DOS disk is to download this tool from http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm
Then download this version for windows http://www.killdisk.com/downloads/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.exe
Then run the option inside the programm menu Bootable DOS Floppy or USB Disk Creator, make sure to run this as admin.
Plugin the USB stick and just press the start button.
Then extract the BIOS to the USB stick. (don't put this on the root but just in a folder named BIOS)
Then turn off the notebook.
Plugin the USB stick, make sure to put this in on the right side.
Then turn on the notebook, make sure the notebook is showing F12 if not enable this option in the BIOS.
Then do the same again press F12 a the post and select the USB stick.
Then exit the Active Kill Disk app and check the dir of the stick.
open the folder an type in the name of the update file ex..... IFL00116.bat.
It should run fine then.
When your notebook is hanging on the load screen for the active killdisk just turn the book off and rerun the steps mentioned above for the start up. -
So whats the password for the 1.15 since the 1.16 is giving problems, please ?

If they dont have it, revert back to next oldest one.
Note to everyone;
Please dont post the password to any protected file/site since they are there for a reason.

Great, do you have 1.16 now, does it work well your laptop?
-
It worked for me too, now I'm on 1.16, is incredible my booting is 50% faster, my Windows Experience Index Base Score is 10, heating is beteen 40 and 42C, and now I can speak 5 languages and I already got my rebate check from the government...............
The only trues things are I have 1.16 and I do speak 5 languages -
Good to know.
Yeah, booting seemed faster. -
Tell me what's wrong with the stick.
Test the stick to see if it's bootable. -
Would people like to get more details about the creation for the Bootable USB stick.
This is only for flashing the BIOS no other options is mentioned and the flashing is on your own !!!!!!!!!!!RISK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So if help is needed just aks, and give details about your problem. -
How to FLASH the BIOS trough a USB-Stick.
I have uploaded the files you need to my Homepage.
Read the document and follow the steps in the document.
http://www.r-verbeek-1.speedlinq.nl/
1: read the Compal USB Flash Document
2: use the Bootable USB Stick software
3: extract the file to the USB Stick. -
The only strange thing I'm experienced during the booting process, is that sometimes it would just display a J- and it didn't do anything anymore, but if I tried to boot again then I would get the C:\ prompt, I don't know what it is but is the least of my concerns because I won't be booting from the USB drive, so I don't care anyway. -
Okay nice to know, i also uploaded some on to my homepage for dirct downloading.
Do you think it's handy to upload new drivers an other stuff.
Keep in mind the space is only 20MB. -
I'm not quite sure about your point. My USB drive is 2GB big, so no big deal. What 20MB are you talking about?
-
I mean when uploading files to my hompage I only have room for 20MB.
But then again is the document clear and easy to use. -
Which homepage are you talking about?
-
http://www.r-verbeek-1.speedlinq.nl/
My homepage? -
Who are you posting this site with? May be you have to increase your quota of server space.
-
Yep but i just offer my space to put the files on it people need to flash the bios.
Maybe in the future I will get more space and upload more files.
Drivers, Software, Utility and other handy stuff. -
That's sound great, the only drawback of it is that you will have to manage your space and that could be time consuming.
-
Can someone give a link to an how to of how to make a usb pen bootable and how to flash the 1.15 bios ? Since the 1.16 requires the ahci to be disabled ...
-
USB pen? Do you mean an USB flash drive?
-
I would like to report an interesting fact as a result of getting BIOS 1.16. I used to get a flickering display when I would do the ctrl-alt-del operation to run the task manager. Now there is not flickering at all, it is very smooth and swift transition to the menu display.
-
Do you have any perfomance issues with 1.16 ? I had been told to use 1.15 insted since 1.16 would be ... trouble ?
-
No issues so far!
-
The flash went well for me, thought I bricked it ! but forgot to disable AHCI. Thanks for the links .
-
It seems when flashing the notebook with AHCI enabled and you have installed Windows XP it give's a BSOD.
This isn't any issue when running Windows Vista. -
I agree, I had my AHCI enable when I flashed my BIOS and my laptop is working fine.
The next step I guess is to try the Penryn processor, regardless of all what people are saying about the incompatibility with the mobo.
