How is the Portable One Mx? Do they have a good warranty and customer service? I really like it because it has a dedicated 512MB NVidea 7600 GO card...

    Thanks for any help.

P1 is solid, not just in terms of their machines, but their service is top notch as well. Look through this forum, you won't find many upset people.

Try this: email or call them. You will get a quick and helpful response. They don't make any of their own computers, they're just a reseller, but they seem to have very good service.

Checkout the portableone mx. You can get it for $1550 with free shipping. Put the rest of your money in the piggy bank and buy a new computer in 3 years.

They are a reseller of Sony and Panasonics, but the Portableone units are modified Asus machines. Their own units are reliable and durable machines and their service is, IMHO, unparalleled.

Phone or e-mail inquiries receive an almost immediate response (the phone is answered within a few rings) from an English speaking, knowledgeable person, oftentimes by Ivan, the owner. Support is great before the sale, after the sale and months out, even if a software problem arises. What is great is that they find the real solution- the first words out of their mouths are never "it's a virus" or "you have to reformat," like so many other tech support responses. They listen to the problem and will work with you until it is resolved. If you need to do multiple tweakings, you can speak to the same person who will remember what was done before and work from there.

One more thing- I noticed you preferred matte screens and that you did have a higher budget- you might want to consider their screen upgrade; it is an expensive option but is a unique screen. Somewhere between a glossy and matte, it retains that beautiful color richness that glossy screens are great for (and you will appreciate in Photoshop and with games) but without the annoying glare. It is very different even indoors and, if you can afford the ~$399 I think it is an option worth considering- my daughter uses her unit for law school and finds the screen vastly better than even the Fujitsu Crystal View screen, which is a top rated glossy screen.

Good luck- you can't go wrong buying from them!

The MX is the Asus A8Jm model which seems to fit your desires very well. The nice thing about ordering it from PoetableOne is that it is very configurable, almost like a Dell. If you order the Asus A8Jm from newegg, etc. you can only get it one way. On top of that PortableOne has an excellent reputation for customer service. Check out their ratings on resellerratings.com, they are exemplary.

i just ordered my p1 MX tonight, i'll let you know how it goes if you'd like :p i think the shipping will take a little longer than normal though b/c of the problem with the bluetooth cards... from what i understand they weren't shipped early enough or something so they obviously aren't installed in the computers yet but hopefully it won't be too much of a delay (< than a couple weeks?)
