    Hey everyone,

Just purchased a barebone HGL30 from milestonePC. I haven't seen the actual configuration yet, so this question may be stupid. I was wondering, should I apply arctic 5 thermal paste to the GPU as well as the CPU?

I realize from pictures that the heatsink is attached to both the GPU and the CPU, and is then connected to the fan. So should applying thermal grease on the GPU help lower its heat levels as well?

Another question, is there a detailed guide floating around somewhere describing how to assemble the HGL30 barebone? I probably wont have too much trouble, but any instructions would be appreciated. I've already found the HEL80 video guide, but anything else would be great.

    Thanks

Yes. Always apply thermal paste to any chip a heatsink is in contact with. It's made to improve the thermal interface, doesn't matter if it's a CPU or what. Just be careful to put it only on the chip, and not get any on any of the surrounding resistors, capacitors and the like.

Yes, be very careful to only apply a very small amount (about half a BB) and don't spread it.

Complete instructions can be found on their website www.arcticsilver.com

Service manuals are hard to come by for the end user, but Google is probably your best source to try to locate one.

    Thanks!

Also, how much would you say a half BB is approximately?

Do you know how big a BB is? As in, from a BB gun? About half that. Maybe around the size of the visible part of a wooden pencil's lead when you sharpen it. I don't know what else to compare it to.

    hahaha thanks guys.

Another quick question. I opened up the back and it looks like the GPU is already attached to its heatsink. Is it worth it to take it apart and apply AS5 to it? Or will it not make significant difference. (I'm planning to oc the gpu a little)

    thanks!

Doubt it will matter much. The real limitation seems to be the underclocked memory.
