My 1630HS20 freezes every other time I play certain games without restarting in between. Example: I run Half-Life 2 and it freezes, I turn off the computer, I turn it on, I run HL2 again without it freezing for as long as I like.

So, in order to prevent freezes, I run the game, exit the game, restart the computer, run the game without problems until I want to quit. If I wish to play again, I repeat the process.

Anyway, is this an overheat issue? Memory perhaps? It only occurs with newer games.

    Thank you for any help.

Yeah check out the guide on how to clean the 6130HS.

It stopped the game freezing problem for me.

    Cheers

I personally would LOVE to read the cleaning guide in the stick post, unfortunately the link to it is duff. I just get a "can't find server".

    Any help?

    Dash,

I'm wondering what video driver set your using. I have seen examples of different drivers causing odd issues. Are you on the basic set that the system was loaded with, or have you updated them with new ATI set or even Omega drivers.

After experiencing low performance with the default ATI drivers, I quickly switched them out for the Omega ones. This resolved performance and graphical issues, but not the freezing issue.

I will be certain to read the cleaning tutorial when it is available.

If the ATI Omega drivers are still causing freezing problems, give the DNA ATI drivers a try.

When I still had hte Omegas installed but still had freezing problems, installing the DNAs seemed to make the system more stable.

Nonetheless, cleaning the laptop and changing the heatsink thermal compound corrected all the problems - my laptop hasn't frozen because of the heat (oxymoron?) [ :)]
