I just got my HGL30 today and it is awesome minus the fact that I can't get omnipass to recognize my fingerprint. I've tried at least 20 times now and everytime, i fail on the 3rd swipe... can you guys suggest any methods to get it to recognize me? thanks!

Makes sure your finger is clean and dry, as is the reader on your scanner. Make sure you set up some alternate fingers as well while you're at it... don't want a cut on your finger to keep you out of your computer ;)

pay close attention to how you swipe your finger. it can be a bit picky.

i always start with the bottom of my knuckle resting on the bottom corner of the scanner, then swipe at a consistent speed downwards. it picks it up every time. before i would just swip my finger any random way, and failed a lot.

It can be a bit tricky to get a feel for it. The animated "finger swipe" it shows you is a good swipe to imitate.

Start with your fingertip on the black portion between the scanner and the touchpad. Now rest your finger on the scanner and then swipe downwards--straight down and not too fast.

It takes some practice and you'll get it.

I keep the bend of my finger at the top of the scanner and move my down while pushing down on the scanner

I would assume if you lost both of your thumbs your PC would be lower on your list of priorities then usual.

Is there some kind of alternative software to use with the fingerprintreader? I don't like the complexity of the default software, it creates all these weird profiles and always pops up with annoying balloons.

A little less complex program to use the fingerprint reader with would be nice.

You can go into the settings and disable the pop ups.

I have the same problem. I can't get it to work on any fingers. The first two times it usually picks it up but that third time it always fails. Im swipping my finger as consistent as I can.

over a week later, i still have the same problem. it will only recognize my thumbs, but not my other fingers. i am as consistent as can be with my swipes and they all appear to be fine, but i always fail on the 3rd try.

see if you can at least get it to recognize your thumbs.

It definitely takes a little practice. At first I had the hardest time registering my fingers. It seems to be easier to register the first 2 swipes but the third one seems to be more picky. Try to replicate the animated swipe.

Place finger tip above scanner. Drop finger down onto scanner and swipe down at a steady rate.

Once you get a feel for it it will get easier.

The frusterating part is that I can see my fingerprint flash in black on the third try before I get the failed message. And I've done it like a thousand times.

Yes I know what you mean. The third and final swipe when registering a finger is especially picky.

Nope, it's not that. It's just that the software isn't able to make a decent fingerpint out of the 3 given fingerprints. It might as well be the first or second swipe which is causing problems.
