    Hi,

I have recently installed Windows 7 Professional 32bit on my Compal FL90. Everything was running great, but unfortunately I think the computer is getting overheated and shutting off because of it. It only does it when the computer is working a lot.

I installed SpeedFan and was checking the temperature while I was making the computer run an update. The temperature for core 0, core 1, and the GPU were getting pretty high, especially the GPU which was getting to be in the upper 90s, then the computer just turned off. I don't really know what to do. I've been reading that maybe updating the BIOS might help since it has better thermal management but I'm really not sure. The problem just happened after installing Windows 7, and the fan looks pretty clean, there is no dust at all that I can see.

    Thanks

Did you check in task manager if any process is using CPU that's making it hot? Also try using Everest or HWMonitor for temps. I don't know if BIOS update would help here. Probably not... What BIOS you got?

My ifl90 was doing the same thing, but before I ran windows 7. All i did was got one of those pressurize air can to clean the key board and blasted the vents. A lot of dust came out and after that my laptop has be running a lot cooler and doesn't shut down anymore.

I clean the CPU fan every 3 months. It's incredible the amount of dirt that sits there!
