EVGA SC15 -- 15" GTX 1060 Laptop 120hz G-Sync

Couldn't find an EVGA forum, but if this is the wrong one, I apologize mods.

So far I haven't found much, but Jayz2cents did a video and he showed the SC 15. It's about 45 seconds into the video.



Known specs are 15 inch 120hz gsync screen and GTX 1060. Has anybody else found more information about this?

I'm guessing we can assume a quad core CPU like it's older SC17 brother.

a few things that i noticed which are really nice to see in this 7700hq class of GTX 1060 high-end laptop is the 1080p 120hz IPS G-Sync Display, sleek black aluminum construction, and what looks like / seems like (from pics on Evga site) the addition of a Thunderbolt 3 port on SC15 :

hopefully, the problems / issues (less than stellar track-pad, somewhat faulty AC Power Brick) mentioned by some users of the Evga SC17 will be corrected / addressed on this newer SC15 laptop. one potential downside is the max 16gb Ram ...32gb or 64gb max would have been nice for running CAD software and rendering etc.
**NOTE** : one major and very important aspect that has not been mentioned by EVGA, and one that would sadly be a deal-breaker for many potential buyers (besides a potentially outlandishly high price) and that would also be quite counter-productive for any supposedly lightweight "portable" 15 inch high-end gaming laptop of this kind, is if there is no option to switch between the integrated Intel 7700hq graphics and the Nvidia 1060 dedicated graphics (with a MUX switch like with the Clevo P650) to save on battery power.

 

some forward movement, the direct EVGA webpage for the SC15 now offers a direct email 'AUTO-NOTIFY' option for those interested to purchase. looks like it is indeed a somewhat limited run on this unit, at least initially (specifies only 2 per household when ordering when it does become available for purchase). a price is also listed for this SC15 (rather expensive all things considered) of $ 1,900.00 for unit with default specs : EVGA SC15 1060 with NVIDIA G-SYNC, 15.6" 120Hz Gaming Laptop, RGB Keyboard, Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR4, 256 GB NVMe SSD, 1 TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1060,

unfortunately, with such a high premium base price tag of $ 1,900.oo for those default specs, no doubt any custom options (4K Display, GTX 1070, additional RAM or larger storage size(s) on internals, etc) will further drive the cost much too far out of reach for many ...especially considering that fact that there are so many quality gaming rigs out nowadays for much less $$$ with higher specs than this default SC15 config.

 

Well, you can either have G-Sync on the internal monitor or you can have the hybrid graphics. Blame Intel and their crappy graphics, not laptop manufacturers. Besides, with potential issues with hybrid graphics, some would consider this an advantage, not a flaw.

Regarding the SC15, I liked the looks of the SC17, but the SC15 looks less squared and boring. And the SC17 doesn't have the TB3, unfortunately, which is a must for a BGA GPU.

 

would venture to say that there are a fairly good number of (professional) users who would purchase a subdued capable portable laptop (with powerful switch-able graphics and an all metal construction body) like this one less for the over-hyped G-sync and more for other (obvious) reasons. apparently that point is not only lost on many manufacturers, but also those who would deem that reality a non-issue.

 

It is available to buy now, but I think it is a little late to the party....I might consider one next year when volta is out if they don´t take to long to release it.

 

good point, very late to the party, especially considering that the SC15's base price (for a BGA Laptop with a 1060) is a good deal more expensive than a fair number of other quality build laptops with a 1070 ....like even the latest Origin Eon15-S with Max-Q which will be priced at around $ 1,600 (base price), and will also offer a 4k option.

Since they took so long, they could of tried to go for the 1070MQ...I am sure their cooling is more adequate than many other thin laptops out there that will be putting a 1070MQ.

 

yes, agreed ....all things considered, a 1060 just doesn't seem nearly as viable or desirable these days (especially at such a high price point as the Blade or this SC15) compared to a 1070. there is enough of a marked performance difference between the 1060 vs the 1070 that if one is going to spend at least around $ 1.5k or possibly more for a Laptop, then you might as well get a Laptop with at least a 1070 to extend the life of your purchase. also, EVGA should have had the foresight to also offer other options/configs for other potential customers ...like a 4K display option for instance. without any additional options/configs offered (1060 or 1070, FHD or 120hz or 4k, etc), they have definitely (sadly) limited the number of people who would purchase this SC15 with so many new Laptop models right around the corner.

They updated the model with a 1070MQ, certainly more adequate for the 120Hz screen compared to the 1060.

 

Where did you get this info about it being updated to a 1070 ?

I think NBC may have incorrect info. All of the other reviewers who showed the laptop on video said is was a 1060.
Clearly, someone was either misinforming, or was misinformed. Would be nice if they upgrade to 1070 though.

 

The SC15 with the 1060 was released last year. This upgraded one hasn't been released yet, it was just shown at CES 2018 last month.

I did go back and look for the videos I watched during CES2018, but it looks like LTT took their video down of the EVGA stuff?
When you search for the SC15 now by LTT, it only brings up the 2017 vid with Luke. Linus was at the booth this year showing off the laptop, and that video is not showing up anymore. There is a missing vid in their CES 2018 playlist.
He may have got in trouble and had to pull it. *shrugs*

 

By the time they release it, it will be outdated with coffelake H coming.
