Can anyone tell me for sure if the FL90 and the FL90 VBI have TPM (Trusted Platform Module)? There is definitely contradictory information out there on this subject. Some official spec sheets from Compal indicate that they do, drivers for the TPM on these notebooks are available, but we have run tests and find that the FL90 does not have the TPM chip. We have not yet tested the VBI version, but have been told that it also lacks the chip. Confusion reigns--does anyone know anything definitive? Thanks!

The IFL90 has the TPM module, as does its VBI version, but, as I understand it, the FL90 (VBI or not) does not have a TPM module. It's one of the components cut out of this model (and one of the reasons I'd prefer an FL90 over an IFL90).
EDIT: The confusion comes from the fact that a LOT of resellers are mistakenly labeling the IFL90 as the FL90, which means that the specs are confused between the two. -
from what sager told me is they removed it from the newest versions. so i guess my answer would be it depends when your was manufacture or the one you are buying was actually made. they did the same from the 5791 model. this came from frank at sager when i called them about it.

What's the significance of TPM and VBI?
-
TPM - Trusted Protection Module: A security chipset used mainly in enterprise-level businesses. There are certain sectors of the internet that are extremely worried that this will be used as a means of making sure that all content on a computer is "trusted" (e.g., not pirated, possibly not even open source).
VBI - "Verified By Intel." These are barebones systems you can purchase and assemble yourself. Compal is one of the big VBI vendors. VBI systems tend to have a few features (like the TPM module and fingerprint reader) stripped out.
