It may already be out in the form of the Zepto Znote 6214W (The HGL that is):

    http://www.zepto.com/Default.aspx?page=NotebookSummaryPage&notebookid=QOvB8QCJcNKmd6FUY

Zepto has kind of a bad picture posted, but note the five little LEDs on the front left of the
case...same in both the Zepto and Compal pictures. Plus, the previous model in this
position of Zepto's line was the FL30.

However, the Zepto 6615WD is clearly not the HEL, so maybe the 6214W is not a Compal after all.

Whatever the Zeptos are, they are certainly 7600go laptops from some ODM and they are released.

Not that this does much good for us in the U.S., since we can't get Zeptos anyway.

Yes - I am the one with the EFL-30, the computer is great, no complaints except for I wish the battery life was longer - getting about 2.5 hrs per charge with wifi on.

I will be in the market for another 14inch laptop this summer and want to make sure I get the latest technology - hence my interest in the HEL.

I liked the EFL a lot so hopefully HGL is a nice refresh that doesn't try and break the mold too much.

wow thats cool! Unfortunately I'm not too optomistic on the battery life of this newer one. the Go 7600 is one helluva card, while the thing uses a 6 cell battery. by comparison the W3J has the similar x1600 with an 8 cell and gets around 2.5-3 hours as well.

Hey Goren I have a question. That info about the boutique gaming rigs and their odms is great, but I have a question. Do you know who dell contracts out to for their laptops and what model they correspond to? Also, I know dell does not make their own lcd monitors. Do you know who does? The info would be really appreciated.

    thanks

    Yes and No.
Dell certainly does contract laptop building to ODMs, which so far has been Compal, Quanta, Samsung and in the future, Asus.

But no. Keep in mind that not every single ODM laptop will be released independently to resellers. Most often with namebrands.. the barebones is only available to the person they have a contract with.. meaning, you will NOT find say, a Dell 710m released outside of Dell. Compal will make it, and it goes only to Dell, no where else. The same goes with many Gateways, Toshibas, Sony, Fujitsu, IBM, etc.

Discountlaptops.com has put the HEL80 up on their website now you can fully spec it for around $1900, I think that powernotebooks and ISTNC will have it in within the next week.
