I'm extremely dissappointed with this screen. The light bleed from the bottom is so bad, i can start with a black bar on the top of the screen and by the time it gets to the bottom its 256 shades lighter.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there any fix for it? I wanted to return it but I can't actually get anything comparable in quality (in every OTHER aspect) with a decent warranty (got it from XoticPC) from them (i'm passed the 15 day grace period for a full money back guarantee...after 15 days you ahve to pay 15% restocking fee because they have to resell the laptop as "used"). So I guess I'm just hoping someone has some ideas to fix it ;) Thanks all!

PS: the Sager 2090 1680x1050 is now discontinued...i can't get it anymore at xotic.

Talk to XoticPC, see if you can get a swap on the LCD screen.

What's the hardware id of your screen? To find out go to device manager and find the entry for the monitor, go to properties then the details tab and choose Hardware Ids from the drop down menu.

I'm interested to know because there have been a couple of threads (including mine) reporting this issue with CPT screens, i wonder if you have one too.

there are limited options now though...the wsxga+ is basically discontinued mostly due to it's very limited supply...

I never realized this, but mine's pretty bad, too. Mine already have a little spot that's brighter than the rest if you view it off axis and area is displaying white.

I emailed PNB so they have it on record, since I don't want to have to RMA it so soon (I've had to RMA my Sager twice until I returned it for a PNB).

We have sold over 100 of the WXGA+ screens with virtually no complaints. Most people like them just as chrisgssc says.

Of course most people don't examine them for little spots that are brighter by looking off axis for them...they just use and enjoy them.

However if you are experiencing flaws in the screen when in normal use you should report it as naddie did and have the manufacturer take a look to see if it is within standard specs. If it is found to be within standard specs though, you will have spent a lot of money on shipping (warranty won't cover the shipping in this case) and been without it for a while so I would make sure it is truly a flaw before sending it in for evaluation.

I think its a faulty batch, didnt hear any problems before.
The retailer compared it to other IFL90's and said they were the same.

Ye, its been away over a month now. So it takes a little.

Hmm, I wonder if it is a batch of the FL90 as opposed to the IFL90.

We only sell the IFL90 (PowerPro J 10:15) so if what you have is the FL90, our experience would not be an apples to apples comparison to the FL90.

I bought my laptop from Rizeon and at the time they were having severe delays supplying orders (apparently along with other Compal resellers) because of a shortage of screens, so i think they've been using a secondary supplier. I think this is the situation because like Redemtion my retailer has taken a look and said that all their screens are the same.

Unfortunately it looks like we just bought at the wrong time, I've got a year warranty so i think i'll try and get a replacement when supplies are back to normal.

Gah, I hope my warranty covers this. I'll be extremely upset if the manufacturer tells XoticPC that this monitor is within their specs. I'll post an update after I send it in.

Bhima, RedemptioN, and PBR (anyone else!?). . .

Lurker these past few months, forgive the first post. . .

Anyway, how did you fare with your replacement screens? Not particularly thrilled with the screen on my new JFL92 and it too is a CPT1465. Watching movies is a disappointment with quick color inversion and washing out just off the "sweet" spot (so screen looks good in the middle and poor at the top and bottom even from the perpendicular) and dark colors or blacks are also washed out on the bottom third or top tenth of the screen even at the sweet spot and even at the lowest brightness settings (though it does improve, but the whites turn to gray and the colors become muted so you can't win). I also noticed that if the screen isn't tilted just right to your position, the bottom of the screen is grainy as well, though this is a lesser issue.

My wife and I will have quite the time trying to watch movies on the laptop at the same time since we cannot both sit directly in front of it at once! I dare say there is some light bleeding as well, but I know this often gets confused with poor viewing angles. I can't believe my screen is within specs, but you never know! It's too bad, the resolution, IMO, is perfect for the 15.4" screen. If I only used the laptop to look at bright images I guess life would be good, but you'd know there was a problem just from the Windows startup.

It's too bad because this is otherwise a very, very nice machine. I don't expect perfection with laptop LCDs (not even close!), they are what they are, but surely there must be a better happy medium.

Looking forward to your hopefully good news!

    @ SoonerCaniac: Few questions:
Which resolution do you have? Where did you buy from & when was that?
Did you inform your reseller & can you take some photos so we can see this "sweet spot" ?

i had a greasy screen on my ifl90, as if someone smeared light vasaline or something behind the screen, defiantly apparent when on a white background like wordprocessor or something. so distracting that i sent my notebook back into powernotebooks for a refund (not full, lost some money and months of time waiting) =\

    Hmmm, interesting.

We never take months to refund for a returned laptop.

Please email me the details so I can look into this.
