I have an averatec 5400 series laptop about 5 months old. I dont have any problems with the laptop and i take it just about everywhere and have even used it to edit tv shows that i have shot. I am wondering however, if the video card can be upgraded.. it comes with the VIA s3G Unichorme Pro IG. I would like to add an ATI or Nvidia but all i keep seeing is for dell or HP or Toshiba. Does anyone have any experience swapping out the card.
I spoke to Averatec and they said that you would have to get a 3rd party card but opening the case will void the warranty.. like i care.. :) Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

before swapping out cards make sure the video card that you want to install is compatible with the motherboard. if its not compatible, you can royally screw yourself. Second, Averatec soders on the card so good luck also getting that bad boy off the motherboard.

Is it really worth voiding the warranty???

since its an integrated graphic card i highly doubt you can change it, and if it is possible, it wouldn't be easy.

Nope you can't change the video card as it's an integrated video type. This is most common with laptops as the heat dissipation/power issues have to be addressed when the units are designed.
