    Hi guys,

I've been playing around with my laptop (6625) for a while now, trying to find a way of 'enabling' the webcam on startup.

By enable I mean replicate what happens when you press the webcam media button (although if possible without starting the bisoncam image capturing software).
The button is not lit on startup, but after pressing it and closing the program it stays lit...

The reason I want to do this, is that skype will only seem to recognise the webcam after pressing the button prior to starting skype, which becomes a bit tedious!

I've tried to track what happens when the button is pressed using processmonitor, but there's so much crap it's hard to follow it all!

Does anyone know what is happening when the button is pressed? Is the webcam somehow mounted (like plugging it in to a usb port for an external cam) or is it simply some software that is started?

Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Owen

If you listen to windows it plays the sound like something is plugged in, so I think it powers up the camera. Also, pressing and holding the button shuts the camera down.

But how to get it started on startup automatically, is something else. Try by manually pressing the button during boot and see what happens.

Mine seems to play more of a camera shutter sound when pressing it... Tried pressing the button when booting - nothing! Thanks for the reply though!

The webcam button hardware-wise enables the internal USB connection of the webcam. When you press the button it's just like if you plug in a USB webcam to a USB port, and when you turn off the webcam button it's just like unplugging a USB webcam. Basically it's not software controlled.

Ah, thanks Rene, I thought that might be the case.
So it's not possible to emulate the button's behaviour, even with some sort of bios or low level mod?

    Cheers,
