How long can you use the Compal HEL 80 with the 6-cell compared to the 9-cell?

Nobody knows yet...the 6 cell battery has not been released yet...

You can guess at 1 to 1.5 hours less.

Okay thx... Here in Europe it's available. I'm asking cause I found a nice deal on a HEL 80, but unfortunately it comes with a 6-cell instead of a 9-cell.

The 9-cell should offer 1/3 more battery life - if the HEL80 gets ~4 hours on the 9-cell, then it should get around 2.5-3 on the six as Donald posted. It is well worth getting the 9-cell. I did not find it a hinderance at all.

Yes, the "sticking out the back" aspect of the 9-cell is a non-issue I've found. It's well worth the extra 3/4" to get an extra 1-1/2 hours of use. Not that I'm unplugged much anyway...

I personally like it when the second you unplug your machine that the battery warning light kicks on stating you only have 5 minutes of battery life left when its been charging all night....just IMO. ;)

camsimple, that usually indicates the battery needs to be replaced. It could also indicate that your charging board on the motherboard has failed.

Is it normal for a little wiggling in the 9 cell? It's not too bad, but I'm a little nervous I could knock it out while carrying it arround.

Yes, a small amount of wiggle is normal.

If you mean carrying it around in your hand (not in a case) I recommend holding it like a book, with your hand on the battery itself.

If you are talking about carrying it in a case, I wouldn't worry to much because if you look at it you will notice that more of it is in the laptop than sticks out, and it is locked in solidly. You would really have to whack it pretty hard to hurt it, and you are not supposed to be swinging your laptop as a weapon :D

Sort of on topic, should I have the battery in my computer when I predominatley use it plugged it? It's still in the box becuase I don't really have a use for it.

    Donald,

Does discharging completely do a whole lot for the battery? Meaning is it worth the effort and does it extend the life by a noticeable amount?

    Yes.

There is a great read on Battery Maintenance under the Knowledge button in the header of our website.

Actually there are a lot of good laptop related articles there including how to make your own screen cleaner, memory comparisons, video card comparisons and many, many more. ENJOY :)

Thanks for the quick response :).

I read through a bunch of articles on this subject earlier, but I guess it boils down to whether or not you're willing to put in the work to save the money.

I'm OK with buying another battery when this one gets too weak.

Your website mentions that the PowerPro warranty covers the battery and adapter. In what capacity (no pun intended :p)?

I'm not sure I understand your "capacity" question.

I think the answer is if either should fail, they will be replaced. If your ship date is before 7/01/06 they are covered for the full period of your warranty, and if your ship date is after 6/30/06 they are covered for the 1st year.

Talk about cutting it close...your ship date was 6/30/06 so they are covered for 3 full years :D

    Thanks,

That was a poorly phrased question but you answered it well.

So if I'm reading this correctly, I still don't understand the before 7/1/06 and after 6/30/06 ;). I guess I'm extremely lucky :D. But I am sure happy to know I've got 3 years of coverage there too!

They are still backordered at this moment. If they have not come in by the time we ship your laptop, we will ship it to you as soon as they come in...unless you want us to hold your shipment until we can ship it all??
