Both would be a good choice for ms word, excel and surfing the web but if I had to choose I would definitely go with the Pentium M version. I found them to be a little more powerful then the Athlon XP-M’s, and the battery life on the Pentium M’s are far better than the Athlon XP-M’s in my opinion. Some Pentium M laptops are known to get around 4 to 6 hours of battery life.

Also the clock speed on a Pentium M is rated low, but it will run as fast as a Pentium 4 at higher clock speeds. One way to compare is to multiply the Pentium M’s rated speed by 1.5 to 1.7 and that will tell you how it compares to the Pentium 4. So a 1.6 GHz Pentium M would run around the same as a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 (1.6 * 1.5 = 2.4).

The calculation is just to give an idea on how fast it will run so don’t take it too seriously!

Anyway, I hope this helps you out a little and no matter which one you choose you’ll be getting a good laptop that will handle everything you mentioned.

It all depends on what you want, do you want a small and light laptop to travel with or is it just going to sit on your desk. Is gaming or movie editing a priority?

That will determine which model is best for you.

if possible i would want a small laptop. most of the time it would be just sitting in my desk at home or occationally bring it with me when i travel.

i would be using it for office programs, surf the web, dl some mp3's occationally, store my pictures, and YM.

i dont edit movie and have not played games since for quite some time since im a bit busy with my thesis. (the games i usually play are those flash games found in the net so i dont a really powerful grafics card i think...)

The other model lines that Averatec offers are bigger and heavier then the 3300 and 3200, so if you want a small laptop then those two are your best options.

The 3360 (intel centrion based) is $999 after rebates at C-USA. However, be warned that I went through 2 of them only to return them altogether due to a high-pitch noise they emit. It seems that the high-pitch noise has something to do with the power and cpu useage - i.e. - no noise when not at full cpu useage. I tried playing around with the power settings and even installed speedswitch xp but the noise kept coming back based on cpu intensity. Even the display units at 2 different stores had the high-pitch noise. Maybe it's a personal thing but the noise got really annoying and even hurt my ears after a while. Otherwise, a great laptop with great features for a great price.

    Chester,

You might want to go online and check out www.NewEgg.com for prices on the modles your interested in. They have a excellant retail rating and RMA policy, I suggest them highly!

    one918,

Surprisingly, battery life was decent. About 3.5 hrs with normal activity (basic word processing, occasional internet surfing) on max battery setting.
