hi everyone,
i'm looking for opinions or reviews on 'Jewel' laptops.
while checking some shops today, i came across a
'Jewel' Topaz 9700 laptop, which is a 13.3" wide-screen
laptop, with the following specs:
13.3" wxga 1280x800
intel celeron m 360 1.4ghz 1mb cache
512mb ddr-ram
60gb 5400rpm 8mb cache hdd
intel extreme graphics 2 (shared video)
8x dvd +-r/+-rw (dual layer)
54/11mb intel wireless lan b+g
3x usb 2.0, firewire
tv-out
56k modem, 10/100 lan
4 in 1 cardreader
without OS (odd?)

i have not heard of this brand before, and am
unable to find reviews on it.
if anyone has info, it would be very welcome.

I think this is a small brand from Netherlands or Belgium which uses barebones from other manufacturers (like Uniwill). The same notebooks are often sold for a cheaper price in Germany, one of the similar German brandnames I know is Nexoc.
I guess that your notebook is built upon the following barebone: Uniwill M30EI0

Yes, no doubts about it.
Cf. http://www.jewelnotebooks.nl/index.php?page=topaz-9700
Note, there exists already a Core Duo version of the corresponding Uniwill barebone:
Uniwill M31EI1

okidoki. thanks for the replies - i ended up buying a vaio sz1xp.

Benq S53 might also be worthy of consideration
(and almost 500 Euro cheaper in Germany: http://geizhals.net/eu/?cat=nb13 ). -
yup - i saw that brand too, but it wasn't very well-known
for laptops where i looked, so i did not want to invest too
much time reading up on it. thanks though
