    OQO 02

i just got a oqo 02 model last week to replace my aging 01 so here is a mini review

bought the model in seattle and threw the box away while comming back into canada but here is the unboxing

    First Impression

When i got back to my friends house i couldnt wait to open the box.
the presentation is very sleek just like buying an apple macbook.

when i held the item for the first time one thing i notice off the back is its fatter then the 01 model and also the amount of plastic compared to the old model.

    Ports

the only ports on the umpc is on the bottom
once port that got me curiouse is the hdmi.

the right and left side has vents and the plastic tabs that hold the lcd in place.(more plastic used on the tabs makes me worrie that after sliding a hundered times will break the plastic.

    Usage
the keyboard is much better then the 01 as there is now light. this is very useful when using the laptop in dark places

the oqo also has sliding touch bars on the side and is very usefull when surfing the net or using onenote.

    Screen
the screen is much better then the 01 as it is not as muddy and just like the 01, it only responds to the pen and it is not a touch screen.

the resolution is also improved but the words are much harder too see at higher resolution

    Performance
    my model specs is:
    1.5ghz
    120gb
    1gb ram

my model came with windows vista and all i can say is slow slow slow. boot up takes a very long time, usually over a min. and when playing movies or even listening to music. it choppy as if the oqo is stuggling. this is on the performance mode too.

however i use the oqo for taking notes and surfing the net and there is no lag when using the pen.(note. the pen doesnt come with the oqo and it cost $30 extra to get it. doesnt fit into the oqo so you might lose it more often)

the internet is also laggy and non laggy at some points. such as when i try uploading files. sometimes it works sometimes it doest.

    Battery

last 2.5hours when the light is set to low and wireless off while using onenote.
last 1.4 hours when performance setting is on and while surfing the net wile listening to music
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Pros

    Smallest UMPC
    faster then most UMPC
    sliding button
Sleek and amazing to look at.
Screen is much better, brighter, and easier to look at
    Installed screen protector

    Cons

-oqo includes less assessories then the oqo 01.
-lag even with 1gb and 1.5ghz cpu
-battery. umpc are suppose to be used for buissness and you will find that you will carry 2 or even 3 spare battery with you, if you plan to use it all day.
-cheap plastic used which makes the oqo easier to scratch and the plastc hindges that hold the lcd might break if you slide it alot.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Other notes

my oqo came with small scratches on the hindges and edges of the battery. while its not big scratches or dents i expect the oqo to be perfect.

the sliding function also stopped working for me after using it for a week and i plan to exchange it when i get back to seattle in a week

i wish they they included more assessories and have a better material case.

here is a pic of oqo 01 for comparision

Are you going to leave Vista on the machine or put xp on it.

i have xp up and running.

all i can say is wow.

instead of waiting for over 2min of loading time. it takes less then 10 seconds on xp before i can use the programs

and no more lag in videos or music.
