Its not a laptop, and its not a periph, but i wrote the review, and i tried to get paid for doing it but sadly no oh well i figured since its just sitting here might as well have someone read it.
Philips GoGear Jukebox HDD6330
mp3 quality 10/10
Screen Quality 5/10
Functionality and Performance 3/10
This not the worst HDD mp3 player i have put my hands on, but its very close.
This review is on Phillips new edition to the GoGear Jukebox series. With touch sensitive controls, a simple user interface. This player lacks true customization, in that it only comes in black, the UI in the player can have 1 of two themes, black as shown in the picture below and a gray color UI which hurt my eyes to look at for more than a minute.
Well It all starts with a little thing called oily skin. If you have it, your out of luck with this Mp3 player. The front of the player where the screen and the touch sensitive controls are, is shiny as I'll get out. With that being said it is very hard to keep this player clean and if you are cautious of finger prints or smudges being on your precious, then DO NOT BUY THIS. If you dont care how pretty it looks, i would say still dont buy it.
The mp3 quality is very very good, but the earbuds it comes with are not. But, i might be spoiled with my Sony MDR ex81s (very good headphones, and sells at a retail price of $49.99.) Anyway, like i said the mp3 quality is very nice, very crisp very clear, and no hissing whatsoever.
As far as the screen is concerned, it is bright, and vivid, but very small. If your prescription for your glasses are pretty old then i would not suggest this player (again!) Album art is converted to the special format that Phi lips chose and is sent to the mp3 player through Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 ( and only 10) no other software can be used unfortunately. I remember the days of being able to drag and drop my files directly to my mp3 player without having to load up some driver and configure it. Just plug in and go. It seems like all mp3 player manufacturers are going to their own proprietary formats. Which is very unfortunate. This also includes the music, which if you use Windows, or Windows Media Player 10 for that matter, this is nothing more than child's play and clickity click to you. For Linux users, you are out of luck as i was.
On a better note this does come with a nice case that protects the player from drops and scratches which i enjoyed greatly, its not pretty but its functional.
Touch sensitive controls are VERY responsive and the wake up time is almost instantaneous, which is not good if you slip it into your shirt pocket to free your hands while listening to some music and accidentally press skip, kind of annoying but the player does stock a HOLD button.
Some more pictures.. for size reference (note some stuff was blocked out of the picture because it contained company information that is non-public. He He my mistake for taking pictures on my break.
Final thoughts...
I wouldn't waste the money on this player, unless you like it even through its flaws. Overal this player is a pain in the butt, it does have a brushed aluminum back which does protect it from dents, but not from scratches, if you are pretty rough on your player, then i would suggest something you could afford to replace.
The volume rocker is not in a good place, in my opinion, and is hard to see if you are first picking up the player
My personal rating for this player is a 4/10. A DO NOT BUY by Delvien's standards!
Pros:
Great mp3 playback
Sturdy
Pretty is kept Clean
The best thing about this player is that its not an Ipod, which funny enough some people thing the only mp3 players that exist in the world is the Ipod. That just goes to show you that people play into marketing BS. Oh well, its a good thing i will fight apple to the death, Draw your sword and prepare to die Apple!
Cons:
Easily Smudged
Poor implementation of proprietary formats and you HAVE to use Windows Media Player 10.
Volume rocker.... need i say more
Very Small album art display (what you see above is the actual size of ALL album arts)
Expensive for 30gb.
Earbuds have poor sound quality
umm umm, oh golly cant thing of anything else

Great Review and Pictures
How's the battery life? I have the 6gb version, and the battery life for that is not good at all.
SG -
My Creative Labs Muvo is the same way with the scratches.
-
I took this back and bought a Toshiba gigabeat f40 ( 70 dollars cheaper) bigger screen , 12 hours playback doing same thing as the Gogear. Plus its not all one piece of fingerprint magnet.yay.. review for that coming soon -
I think mine is about 8 hours. I'm buying an iPod next week. I've tried Creative, but it keeps locking up, and can't find anything else with a good battery life.
-
Yea, my Creative Zen Touch is also pretty lacking in some places, especially the long loading times, etc. It has also broke a few times where I had to send it in. But I've been spoiled by the 20+ hour battery life. However, 1 more time, and I'm getting a full replacement from FutureShop(owned by Best Buy) as I have a produce service plan....
I hope to get the Creative Vision:M -
I've had 2 creatives. The 5gb and zen touch 20gb. When i updated the firmware, both of them locked up and went into the infite loop. I tried to get creative to service them, but finally gave up. They have great battery life, but i'm tired of spending money on mp3 players.
