My only concern: sporadic mention on the boards that the Dell screen is somewhat dim. I don't care so much about the glossy (HP? others?) vs matte finish (Dell?), in fact I think I'd prefer the matte to cut down on glare, but I don't want it to be dim. Anyone here testify to the differences between HP's and Dell's screens as I await the arrival of my new baby?

    Once upon a time, I had a HP ZV5000Z...

    God rest its soul
    it got stole

    so I returned to hpshopping
to replace what I'd be missing

thinking for 500 or so less
    I could replace my happiness

    only to find
    what blew my mind

    the 1920 screen I loved
    Carly, on exiting, had removed

had to google forever and a day
    to find another wuxga display

on a laptop I could love
with 2 GHz (or so) or above

When I bought my ZV5000Z I couldn't help myself clicking all the upgrades, which included the 1920x1200 WUXGA display, not even thinking it would make a difference. I absolutely fell in love with that screen - it was GORGEOUS! Then it was gone - stolen and no longer offered on that model. Thanks for nothin', Carly, and good riddance!

Now I'm stuck on that resolution. It seems 1920x1200 (WUXGA) is a pretty rare thing - at least for a 15/15.4" display. I don't see it offered on any HP/Compaq systems anymore, nor Toshiba, nor IBM. I found one on www.xtremenotebooks.com. I called them up, they were nice and knowledgeable and I felt was getting a great machine for a good price. I ordered it.

The next morning I found I could get the newer (915 vs 855) Pentium M chipset, longer battery life (5.5 hrs), faster processor (1.86GHz vs 1.7GHz), faster FSB (533MHz vs 400MHz), a nicer design, and the confidence of a name brand from Dell vs xtremenotebooks. I felt bad canceling the order, but the specs is the specs, and I gotta have mines, so that's that.

    Peace.

twice two makes five is sometimes a very charming thing too
