I began this review hoping that, similar to what Macintosh users enjoy with iMovie, Microsoft might see fit to produce a remarkably promising piece of entry-level video editing software in its Windows Live Movie Maker. Instead, I now want to point out that Windows 7 and Vista users can always go back and download Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for free, rather than use Windows Live Movie Maker. That's because Windows Live Movie Maker, at least in its current beta state, feels extraordinarily incomplete.

I was not impressed at all myself. My friend and I spent an hour figuring out how to import video from his camera. In terms of features, this feels like a leap backwards from the previous versions. Absolutely terrible.

I use Windows Movie Maker only as a last resort (e.g. Forced to do the editing on a friend's laptop and not have a copy of another software handy).
Anyway, like you've mentioned, it's FREE!!! -

why did you review this crap? I use imovie and I love it. MS should really redefine everything including the crappy hotmail service! There are tons of spam every day in my email box.
Also, please, add a search box in every windows. Let PEOPLE search. -
Yeah it's true, as the saying goes, you can't beat free.....
But the sad thing is, it appears that you can beat free in this case...with another free product!
Excellent review as always.

excellent review...though pathetic editor.BTW,are you going to review Final Cut Pro?

I love Windows Movie/DVD maker in Vista...if they're really being stripped out, I may just stick with Vista. For what I need it for, Vista's Movie/DVD maker are way more competent than iMovie/DVD, or this...thing.

I say this is the worst video editing software I have ever used.
I have no idea what Microsoft was thinking, but it is so bad that I can't believe they even spent the time to make what they did so far if they don't plan to include anything else.
I will stick with the old movie maker that XP uses if I want a free one. -
And why on Earth don't they just START with the one they have in Vista? It's really good...why not use that as the basis and add to it, instead of starting over with some junky one. I don't get it.

It's almost like different divisions of Microsoft don't get to use the same code, or something weird. You'd think they'd have the same people working on it, STARTING from Vista, not reinventing the wheel. I really, really like Vista's program-more so than what Apple gives you (since it actually does what I need it to, and easily).
