Whenever there is an upcoming major change to a particular computing platform, it's always interesting for us to see how our readers react. When there is a new processor platform or operating system update, it seems like there are two major schools of thought: "wait and see" or "buy now because you want the newest technology". We'd like to hear what your stance is with the looming official Windows 7 release, so please take a few minutes and let us know!

I maybe buy a new desktop with Windows 7 on it just for the heck of it it but my main brain will still be Mac. It would be nice if work would switch off XP finally but no big corps have any interest in doing that.
Also
Since the "free' Windows 7 upgrades have been made available when buying a new PC I thought it would be just fine to buy one with Vista and put Windows 7 on when it comes out. From reading the down to the wire stories about Windows 7 I would just as soon buy something with Windows 7 on it so I know there are no issues. -

I've been running Win7 since it was first released publicly. I love it. THe only thing i'm waiting for to put the actually release version on my lappy is for me to get home.
The RC runs great and i have a nice shiney gold and black win7 box waiting on me when i get home for install (yay for signature edition ultimate) -
I'm waiting for the ASUS UL line of notebooks to come out!
-
Cheers! -

I'm waiting for it to actually be released

But on topic, I've been quite happy with Windows7, it's better than Vista for sure, though XP was always good to me. -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
It's Grrrrrrrrrrrreat! Love it. Been running for about 3 months full time now and a few before that on a VM. Everything seems to be very smooth and games are awesome when played in 7. Haven't really had any big issues with hardware or software. My webcam doesn't want to work, but I never use it anyway. I'm telling everyone I know to make sure they get it if they get a new computer or make sure they are eligible for the upgrade.
All in all I have to say(if you can't tell)that it is super so far. And hopefully can only get better. -
I can't complete the survey because it doesn't include the reason I am waiting. I am waiting to purchase because new hardware comes out simultaneously with Windows 7.

i'm actually waiting for oem release of w7.

I too am waiting for Asus g51j (core i7) from newegg with win7.
-
Who said anything about waiting? I already have two (legal) copies...had them for over a month too .
-
Would you mind sharing Greg?
I have no problem with ordering Vista and getting Win7 later. But Dell wont let me, and I will have to wait... -
Greg is a tease. That is all.

I've needed a new laptop since May and have put off buying one until Oct 22. for its release. They need to start loading it as the default OS now and loose Vista entirely. We're a week away why aren't systems shipping with it now? I think its best to wait because if anyone's system crashes they have to install Vista first then 'upgrade' to 7. I'd take 7 as the pre-installed system any day
-
but they are not on my laptop yet... -
My laptop purchase is completely independent of OS choices offered. I prefer to get no OS and use the savings elsewhere.

I have a laptop with XP and a desktop with Vista. Laptop is 4 years old and desktop is nearly 3 years old. Desktop originally had XP on it when purchased and I upgraded it for free to Vista. I'm one of those (apparently) few people who have had no issues with Vista. It works great for me and frankly on such an old system I see no reason to upgrade to 7. I will upgrade to 7 for both laptop and desktop when I get a new system. Until them I am content.

Been using Windows 7 a long time now, and im quite impressed how snappy it fells compared to Vista, and its driver support is much better than XP x64.
But im waiting for AMD's mobile gpu refresh.
If i bought a notebook now i would just regret it when ATI Mobility 5000 series gets released Q1 2010. (if we are lucky that is. ) -
I've been using windows 7 enterprise 32 and 64 bit on 3 computers - for work and home - desktop, macbook, acer netbook. Its all gravy - epecially in comparison to vista. Not bad compared to XP either. Works with some XP computers, but much better with vista capable hardware. With some older hardware and software titles I've had to use the built in compatibility installer (which has worked). New hardware is very exciting too!

I'm getting Windows 7 for my desktop, but waiting to see what new notebooks come out with 7 on them.
-
Waiting for my school to put it up for download on its website...
I am already using the RC version. -
I don't know if you can download it on day one... and RC will expire that day too right?
-
There are a few questions or answers missing. My answers don't really express my reasons. I don't care at all when/what OS comes out. I am waiting for the hardware in January and will buy my new Notebook around that time.
One reason why I really don't care is that I get Windows 7 for free over msdnaa already and anytime. All I have to do is do a clean install.
Actually I am using the Win7 RC on my almost 4 Year old Notebook pretty much since the RC is out (I only skipped the Beta).
If I didn't have msdnaa access, (in the case I'd like to buy a notebook right now in the first place) I wouldn't wait for Win7 as long as I get it for free and get the drivers. Installing everything myself is better anyway as you don't have to deal with crappy nonsense Software some vendors put on their Notebooks.
Much more important I don't see any point in getting a Notebook (unless it is an ULV) at the moment when Arrendale comes in January. This new platform is definitely worth waiting. -
You can see my current laptop in my sig I bought 2 months after Vista came out. I'll probably replace it with a Windows 7 laptop (not sure if it'll be a HP Mini 311 or a Acer Ferrari One). I already bought a HP desktop and since my alma mater (University of Texas at Austin) decided to go ahead and sells copies of Windows 7 Ultimate, I had him snag a copy for $34! It runs like a dream.
And Media Center + CableCard = mouthwatering experience.... I will never go back to a cable company set top box again! -
i have been using win 7 full time since beta, then Rc... I like it very much... but OS doesn't really infer my delay... hardware is the only thing worth to delay
-
I have to agree with some of the other posters here. The survey questions weren't generic enough to cover all possible reasons for waiting. Personally I am waiting because very retail stores have stock in the laptops I want because their waiting for Win 7 to be released.
So therefore the release of Win 7 is a negative reason as to why I'm waiting.
