    VIA Announces Surfboard platform

    VIA today announced its Surfboard platform for mini-notebooks. The platform includes an ultra-compact motherboard with the VIA VX855 chipset (integrated graphics included) and the VIA C7-M ULV processor. The platform is designed for use in mini-notebooks with screen sizes ranging from 10 to 12 inches. The platform supports playback of 1080p high-definition video and 8-bit high-definition audio. The platform supports internal display resolutions up to 1366x768, and external displays up to 1920x1440.

    I thought the C7-M had been superseded by the VIA Nano. Or maybe this is aimed at video playback where the bulk of the work is being done by the GPU and the slow CPU with low power consumption is not a limitation.

    I'd be interested to know how this hardware platform improves on the VIA Nano + GX800 chipset as available now in the Samsung NC20.

    The C7-M is a puzzling addition, I agree. It didn't do so well in the HP Mini-Note 2133.

    The Nano won't be out for a while. I though they teamed up with Nvidia though?

    The Samsung NC20 with the nano U2250 has been available in UK for about a month and is expected in the US shortly.
