Almost two years ago, Sony called it quits on its computer division, but that didn’t spell the permanent end of the VAIO brand. It only resulted in a metamorphosis – one that has manifested in the appearance of the Z Canvas, a high-end tablet running Windows 10 Pro. Those familiar with previous VAIO computers will likely be surprised by the excellent performance and flexibility of the company’s new flagship product.

Was that meant to be such a dig at Sony-era VAIOs? If you're familiar with their prior products and you're surprised by the current product's excellent performance and flexibility, that implies that the prior products had poor performance and flexibility.

I see this not as a surprise, but as a continuation of the good build quality and design (and high price points) from the Z family, with a dash of the flexibility from the Duo and Tap families.

It's a great looking device and I'm glad the VAIO name is back. I only ever owned one VAIO way back in 2004 but I was always an admirer of the brand and usually hit them up when I was shopping for a computer. I love that kickstand and the pen looks great but for a high end tablet to not have USB-C? What is this? The Dark Ages?

The Canvas Z was kind of "built in the dark ages" because it actually released in Japan early LAST year. So it doesn't have a Skylake processer, etc. I would be willing to bet they will update it in a few months with all the new bells and whistles.

I have had mine for several months now and I absolutely love it. It is rock solid stability-wise and performance has been great. It is spendy, but I was looking at the Surface Book, and a 15" MBP in comparison when I shopped, so it is priced in the neighborhood of those devices. (I wanted a powerful Photoshop/Lightroom travel computer for my photography. The extra features for artists (and the dismal experiences of the first Surface Book owners with regards to stability) sold me on the Vaio and I haven't looked back since.
