I guess you can't make a regular Win 7 DVD into a USB bootable form? I'm sure someone, somewhere will figure it out sooner or later though ;)

Of course you can. It's done the same way as Vista too. This is for regular consumers who aren't technically inclined. You pay for the convenience.

It is not a terribly bad idea...I mean, considering the huge amounts of thin and light laptops that are ditching the OD Bay, and consumers (regular ones) are not that tech savvy, this is a good way to go. You pay only the OS and that is all, and you dont have to get the eOD (another expense) just to install it.

For example if I bought a netbook, and it is the first laptop I have ever had, and I want to upgrade, I can do it via USB, instead of buying the eOD and then installing (too many hassles), so in from a point of view of convenience+affordability vs buying the eOD+the OS and installing it is better.

I hope in the near future, CDs/DVDs are replaced by disposable, smaller flash form factor media.

Making a live USB isn't so hard...extract the ISO, format USB to FAT32 and copy the files over! I was amazed at the simplicity of the process
