Toshiba today announced Toshiba Satellite T100 Series, a new line of consumer ultra-thin laptops designed to provide notebook-class performance at a netbook-class starting at just $449.99.

Measuring less than one inch thick and starting at just under three and a half pounds, the slim Satellite T100 Series laptops are packed power-efficient Intel ultra-low voltage processors and will come pre-loaded with Windows 7. Toshiba promises the T100 Series laptops will be ready at a moment’s notice, including extremely fast resume from standby times and power saving enhancements that deliver up to 9 hours of battery life.

These new thin and light notebooks will be available in two screen sizes and multiple color choices. The Satellite T135 features a 13.3-inch widescreen display and will be available with Toshiba’s Fusion Finish in "Nova Red," "Nova Black" and "Nova White." The Satellite T115 offers an 11.6-inch widescreen display and will be available in Nova Red and Nova Black. The color-matching Fusion Finish design extends inside the laptop, around the keyboard, touchpad and the display.

Thin and Light, But Loaded With Features

Much like some of the other ultra-thin notebooks we've seen recently, the Satellite T100 Series laptops are engineered to provide the same experience you'll find in a standard laptop but squeezed into an ultra-thin package. The laptops feature full-sized keyboards and full-sized touchpads with multi-touch control for gesture-based commands, such as two-finger pinch, swipe, rotate and scroll.

As previously mentioned these notebooks will ship with Windows 7 Home Premium, large capacity hard drives, DDR3 memory and plenty of expansion ports ... including HDMI-out. Built-in Wireless N technology and Bluetooth (available on select models) help you stay connected.

These new laptops are not only designed to be light on the scale and light on your wallet, but they go easy on the planet as well. The T100 Series notebooks feature power-efficient, mercury-free LED backlit displays and are RoHS compatible, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and certain other hazardous substances. The Satellite T135 and Satellite T115 also meet the requirements of the EnergyStar 5.0 standard and achieved Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold status.

11.6" is the best screen size ever created. Cannot wait until 11.6" machines start getting Arrandale. Laptop Mag already has a T135 review up.

No it's 15.6" :D Anyway. That's great news. Very cheap laptops and they are very good. Great design but I doubt the battery will last 9 hours. I wont believe that statement until someone confirms this. It will probably have 5 - 6 hours.

Hm, as someone who owned two Toshiba laptops previously(RIP) O am excited to see this news.

They are making a lot of changes now. First and most important they got rid of that crappy glossy keyboard(Thank god) Now all there newer small laptops have LED displays something this brand has never really had before.

Then the X500 looks pretty sweet, not to mention they added backlit keys on there bigger notebooks. Im happy more competition is always a good thing.

Yes, the 1410/1810 is 3.1lbs. The 1410/1810 is still my favorite 11.6".

Great news can't wait to read the review. I'm loving the trend towards thin and light going on right now. Netbooks did not attract me at all.

Something with reasonable screen real estate, a full (or almost full) keyboard, enough power to actually get things done, but still have a lot of battery life! And of course, nice and easy to carry around. Thin and light is definitely the way to go.

That is kinda subjective JTF2. For regular uses, yes, they are the best if you are a mobile person all the time. But for power, unfortunately is not the best.

Oh, I just want to see someone launch a 12 inch or even 11.6 with FULL QWERTY KB on it, and good specs for a low price, and Ill be all over it! Something like a SU9600 for under 600 lol would not complain, if paired with a 9400M G! (am I dreaming too much??)

You guys gotta be sick of me asking this question right about now, but any word on dedicated graphics? That'll be sweet. Any word on an Arrandale version based on the design coming up?

On Arrandale there might be no word, since it is nowhere near of being launched. 1 Year the earliest.

If they manage to get a GPU there, great, but I dont think so, heat management is not that good on such a small enclosure.

We already know how Atom can perform but
    - How does the SU4100 compare to Intel Celeron processor 7433?
-Can these handle HD content, 720P or 1080P?

Also no word on the ION platform coming to Toshiba? Toshiba used to be chocfull of features, but I really feel they dropped the ball last couple of years-may be their furious competition just caught up (Thanks God they cannot -anymore-charge those prohibitive $$$ for executive jewelry!)

We all dream of a duo core CULV (at least SU7300, 1.3GHZ,core 2 duo) with NVIDIA ION graphics-THAT would be major. I am sure most people would be willing to shell out $700-800 for such an ultra light. Simply because you could use it as your primary unit and get everything done (outside of Gaming or video editing which usually is for bigger screens/processors anyway). If u took a look at the UL30 from Asus you know that this is a growing category. Cmon Toshiba!

The SU4100 is faster. The SU4100 and Celeron are the same clock speed, but the SU4100 has an extra core and more L2 cache, so it will be faster while using the same amount of power (both have a 10W TDP).

In some areas Acer offers the 13in timeline with the SU9x00 core 2 duo and ATI 4330, which is slightly better than ION.

Hmm...I'm pretty sure it's the Acer Timeline 3810 TG they are talking about.

    Check it out here: https://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Aspire_Timeline_3810TG_645525.html

Not much other info or reviews on this TG model though. If it were readily available in N America I would probably buy it NOW.

More perf specs here...this thing rocks!...How did I miss it? Is Acer the 1st/only one with this kind of hardware profile? I mean 3.5LB +Su9400 (1.4GHZ)+ Ati 4330 (dedicated 512 Ram )... in a 13 inch? Not bad

Acer is the first, but not the only. The Asus Ul30 will soon be available with C2D and switchable graphics between Nvidia and Intel.

Nice to know because the Asus Ul30 seems to be much nicer, with longer battery. Although the Acer also have switchable graphics and weights a nice 3.5lb. Vs 3.88 LB for Asus. Plus the Acer beside immediate availability will typically have lower pricing.
