Built-in to the A9 is Toshiba’s EasyGuard technology that provides the Tecra A9 with the following enhancements:
- Shock Absorbing Design - Enhanced protection zones along all sides of the notebook to help the Tecra A9 better withstand accidental drops from heights up to one meter. In addition, Toshiba implemented reinforced ribs in the rounded edges of the display lid to better protect critical components by better dissipating energy resulting from accidental bumps or drops.
- HDD Protection - Recognizing that the hard disk drive (HDD) is one of the most critical components and that accidentally dropping a notebook rarely occurs in a linear motion, Toshiba implemented the 3D accelerometer, a mechanism which detects acceleration from all directions. The 3D accelerometer helps guard the HDD against awkward accidental drops, including a spinning, falling notebook, by rapidly removing the HDD head from between the HDD platters, better protecting the notebook in all three rotational dimensions of pitch, roll and yaw.
- Spill Resistant Keyboard - Toshiba also improved their spill resistant keyboard to help protect against accidental spills of liquids, including soda, beer and coffee with cream and sugar, an upgrade from the previous protection against water. This enhanced feature affords users time to save work and shut down the system in the event of an accidental spill—helping to prevent the loss of data.
The Tecra A9 will be available with the Intel X3100 graphics card at launch, and will expand to include models featuring NVIDIA Quadro NVS 130M discrete graphics down the road.

I was really hoping to see the Tecra line with a real winner here, but although the A9 does have an option for 1680 x 1050 resolution with the 15.4 WS, neither system ships with a 7200RPM SATA drive option and the graphics choices are limited to non-existent.
As a current Tecra M2 owner, I'm leaning more towards the HP 8510p which has a DX10 graphics option standard (ATI X2600) and a 100GB 7200RPM drive option.
As a consultant I have the frequent need to run VM's and so the 4GB RAM option is fantastic, the 7200 RPM drive is a must have, and graphics horsepower really helps when you're on project away from home and get the rare chance to game. I'm still hoping that they'll offer these options in a non-Satellite chassis. -
I like the M9. It remind me of the U205 at 12.1" but I prefer 14.1" screen.
Is the M9 screen bright?
I might choose the M9 over the Dell D630. -
Wow, the M9 looks impressive!!! Yeah Chong67, it reminds me of my Portege M500 (U205) also.
Wonder when it will hit Asia. -
The graphic card options are now avail, or at least one is, at toshiba.com. The quality of Toshiba is the reason I'll get the A9....maybee in a month?? Either way good luck! -
Xp pro is the reason I'm looking at this sys and not a Satellite....I didn't realize how nice this line of notebooks really is.....
The A9 is the one I hopefully will be getting soon...anyone know how long toshiba may offer this XP for??? -
AH, extra work stinks, but I was able to order a Tecra A9 from Toshiba last night.....very excited. i opted for the sxga screen...and the extra warranty, (which i never used on my 6 year old toshiba satellite, but i feel more protected). I will answer anyones questions about the unit here if you have any. I hope to have it in 10-12 days....maybe.
