    So they add an extremely quick CPU and pair it with a conventional hard drive? Seriously, on a 17" laptop a SSD + HDD combination should be standard by now. It would make the consumer much more happy than 8 GB of RAM (for what with Intel HD graphics?) or a quad core CPU.

    I know it's an almost alien concept for most of us here in the NBR forums, but two of the main concerns for many consumers (particularly here in the U.S.) when buying a laptop are price and screen size. Things like storage performance and graphics are generally overlooked by those consumers while most of us here are painfully aware that a slow HDD usually makes an otherwise fast machine much, much slower.

    All of the major laptop OEMs have sales figures that show plenty of the people buying 17-inch desktop replacement notebooks care more about keeping the price low than paying for faster storage and discrete graphics. Those buyers are just looking for a big screen at a reasonable price.

    That said, I would personally never buy a 17-inch notebook without a SSD or SSHD and dedicated graphics card even if it means paying a little more.

    So .......... tell me please, what is the cheapest, fastest, well made 17" Laptop with an SSD or SSHD and dedicated graphics card?

    In most of the reviews on expensive Ultrabooks I keep reading "trackpad is sub-par"... "trackpad is sub-par"... "trackpad is sub-par"...

    Seriously, why can't the manufactures get this kind of detail right? Actually, the other thing I keep reading is "keyboard is sub-par". DELL has good keyboards and touchpads, but other aspects of their laptops are sub-par, such as monitors without touch or decent resolution in the right size, limited RAM and CPU capabilities, limited or zero SSD options... the list goes on.

    I'm waiting to find specs that go:
    - Screen (tick)
    - CPU and RAM (tick)
    - SSD (tick)
    - Keyboard and Trackpad (tick)
    - Ergonomics (tick)
    - Ports and Connectivity (tick)

    It's weird when you discover new awesome hardware only to find that they left a few critical features out.

    You're right. We need more trackpoints in laptops!

    But, judging from my older Toshiba Satellite L505 and a few other, newer Toshibas from peers, it seems that they just don't care. Aside from the KIRAbook, they're all about budget, cheap, etc. Puts them on par with Acer imo.

    To whom it may concern:
    On August 14, 2013 I was unable to connect to the internet.I contacted tech support and he spent a short time trying to troubleshoot problem.Unable to do that he explained I would have to buy a $160 subscription to repair my laptop.Toshiba Satellite L775-S7102 Ser. ZB089732R
    He remotely worked on it for 2 1/2 hours.When he was done he appeared to repair it.I worked online for a short time as it was 10:00 PM.Then I went to bed.I was unable to log on when I woke up.I contacted tech services which attempted a short period of trouble shooting and informed me that my hardware is not working.Where upon I would have to purchase another computer or send this one in for repair.After my initial outrage I was told to contact the hardware department where they told me there was nothing they could do for me and said to contact Consumer relations. I did and was treated with no compassion for an issue that arose after your tech spent all that time remotely repairing my laptop and what a coincidence this was.Which I find very hard to believe!!
    I own my own business and if I told one of my customers after I "repaired " something and "coincidentally" something did not work a day later and I told them they have to buy a new one after it was only 3 years old and the hard drive was replaced in Jan. 03 I would not stay in business very long.My company has been in business since 1933!!
    I feel not only was I unjustly sold a product that was not needed but my computer was somehow broken in the remote repair.
    I can not begin to explain the dissatisfaction with Toshiba!
    I would have been agreeable with the consumer relations woman that if they were to send me a new key board I would install it myself.She would not in any way shape or form try to resolve this issue in an amicable way.
    I feel that is a fair and just compensation for the stress and aggravation I have had to endure the last 24 hours.
    Please reply as to you receiving this letter.

    Have a P875 that is 6 months old. The keyboard spacebar takes an excessive amount of effort to work. Finally got frustrated and called support. The result in talking to Toshiba supportwas extreme frustration and disdain. This is probably my 5th toshiba over the years andthesecond in the past year. Triedto work with them for an alternative to having to mail the laptop in for repair. Do you have any authorized repair partners. "yes but only ifyou are goingtopay for therepair." Can I pay forakeyboard, replace it myself, and return thedefective onefor a credit to my card. No. Do you have any otheroptions? "Only if you purchased an elite/we give a sh)^ service upgrade" Ok, how much? "It is only available to purchase with the first few days of purchasing the laptop."

    After getting it back from repair this pretty nice laptop is most likely going to craigslist and back to a dell or hp.
