The Toshiba Satellite P205, which is also sold as the customizable Satellite P200 via ToshibaDirect.com, is a recently released 17" screen multimedia laptop. Toshiba has updated the look of their 17" series so if you want a stylish looking desktop replacement this might be your stop.

    Nice review.

This notebook is worthless without that awesome Go7900 class GPU available in it...That was the main reason I ever looked at the P100/200 in the first place. It was a great way to get a non-Dell gaming system for cheap.

I like the new styling, and the hinge design is great. It makes the system height lower, and I think its a bit more durable than the regular style of hinges because it changes the direction of the force placed on the hinges.

Good review! I was waiting to see when someone would get this laptop. It is unfortunate that they continue to use the 4200rpm drive as that is quite slow for a modern laptop and for me, I only ever looked at the p100 cuz of the 7900GS. Im guessing you got 2hrs on the battery cuz the integrated graphics helped out. My dv9000t with a go7600 has an 8cell and I get 2.5-3hrs with wireless, mid to high brightness and just watchin videos.

I just feel that no 17" desktop replacement should EVER come with integrated graphics, no matter what, it should be a crime.

I strongly agree! Thats one reason the new HP models suck!

But I think you can customize this toshiba and get dedicated graphics

LOL ppl dont seem to get it. there are those who DONT play games but would like to have a big screen to work with, whether it be for normal computer work or watching movies. HP and Toshiba it seems are simply filling that demand, both these laptop models will come with dedicated graphics cards next month when Nvidia release their new 8 series range

I thought the 8 series of cards were already out?

The point is HP does not give you an option....it is just intergrated graphics on their new 17 inch santa rosa...that sucks.

    What about the new Sony's?

I think only some manufacturers have them or they have advertised them. HP dont give u an option because they probably dont have them in yet. It would be stupid of them not to offer it at all, so its only logical that they will soon

    Thanks for the comment, everyone.

My own strong preference is for dedicated graphics, but I gotta figure there are a lot of people who just don't care.

The hard drive speed didn't seem to be a problem using business apps and doing regular media stuff, and I guess 4200 RPM is pretty standard for a single 200GB drive, but again, my personal preference is for a faster drive.

I guess when I do these reviews I try to think of what kind of user, maybe purchasing from a place like Costco or Best Buy, the notebook would appeal to. And my guess is, a lot of these buyers are going to decide based on the screen, keyboard, overall look and price, rather than GPU and HD speed. That said, I always like the comments.

The Toshiba P205 DOES have dedicated graphics up to 256mb (the go 7600)

    So no worries there!

Great looking laptop to me...just missing a couple other things I want. But I think it is a great laptop for the price.

thats good to hear though the P100/105 (which i gather this was meant to replace) had 7900GS and 7900GTX as options. but yeah your average laptop consumer probably wont care what gfx card is in it, theyre after the screen and entertainment features, so why not give them a laptop that offers just that and nothing more?
