Nice review as always, Jerry ...

5+ hours of life is excellent for a $500 14" notebook; a couple of years ago that would have been unheard of. Cheap consumer notebooks are notorious for low-capacity batteries.

That Seagate hard drive is inexcusable. Seagate is almost always behind the competition in performance save for their Momentus XT. I have a 250GB 7200RPM Momentus in my work notebook, it's also painfully slow (IT department will not let me upgrade it ).
Naturally, notebook manufacturers choose whatever they have on-hand, it was luck of the draw.

Best notebook drives out there performance-wise are the 7200RPM WD Scorpio Blacks, the 500GB (WD5000BEKT) and the 750GB (WD7500BPKT).
