Toshiba today announced a new addition to its 17.1-inch desktop replacement laptop line with the Satellite L350 series, with dual-core processors and an affordable starting price of $749.99.

The new Satellite L350 offers some basic multimedia features including a large 17.1-inch diagonal widescreen TruBrite display, built-in Webcam, ATI Radeon X1250 graphics and a DVD SuperMulti drive with Labelflash. More importantly, consumers have a choice of dual core processors from either AMD or Intel.

The Satellite L350 series is available in several configurations, including the Satellite L355D-S7810, which features an AMD TurionTM 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 processor.

    Satellite L355D-S7810 Specifications ($749.99)

    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (SP1, 32-bit version)
    • AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 (2.0 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, HyperTransport Technology @ up to 800MHz)
    • 2GB PC5300 DDR2 SDRAM memory (Maximum capacity 4GB)
    • 200GB (4200 RPM) Serial ATA hard disk drive
    • DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash drive supporting 11 formats
    • 17.1" diagonal widescreen TruBrite TFT LCD display with 1440x900 native resolution (WXGA+)
    • ATI Radeon X1250 128MB-831MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
    • Built-in stereo speakers
    • Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless-LAN
    • 3 USB Sleep-and-Charge ports
    • Built-in Webcam and microphone
    • One-year standard Limited Warranty

As previously mentioned, Toshiba is also offering a version of the L350 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor and 3GB of system RAM that retails for $799.99.

The Satellite L350 series is available from a variety of major consumer electronics and computer stores nationwide, or directly from Toshiba at www.toshibadirect.com and detailed product specifications and information can be found on the Toshiba website.

Clearly, the big news here is that you can now buy a big desktop replacement with tons of screen real estate and tons of storage from a reliable company for less than $800. That's pretty impressive.

You can get a Dell Vostro 1700 for less than $800 dollars right now. (I'm helping my dad buy one right now)

There is no noticeable decrease in real-world use. Trust me, I know. The higher platter density must compensate for the slow spindle speed.

Who cares, most of us will be swapping that out before even pressing the power button once. I'll grant that the eBay listing won't be a smash though.

It is a joke, they had the choice of an AMD Turion or a Core2Duo, and they chose the AMD.....

Pass. Not sure what the point of this laptop is. You can get a much more powerful (dedicated GPU) laptop for gaming at ~ the same price from Dell or whomever.

As a non-gaming desktop replacement, the only feature is the 17" screen.....big, but it's a low resolution by 17" standards, so again, why bother?

Where is the market for a large, 17" laptop, with no other features?

"Hey Mike, look at my new laptop. It's huge, but it uses that size to pack in the same features as on a good 13" laptop!"

I'd rather have the 17-inch than the 13-inch in such a case. I'd rather have a nice large screen than a light but small laptop. And I wouldn't want any bigger resolution - 100 DPI is more than enough. I'm young but I don't dislike the benefits of readable text.

And for the price it's got pretty good features. Sure you can get dediated graphics from Dell for less, but if dedicated graphics isn't your thing, a nice 200 GB hard drive and a 2 GHz processor is not a bad deal. I can certainly see people looking for a mainly stationary, large-screen, laptop with a large hard drive and decent other specs, but not caring for fancy graphics. I like this laptop.

I'm not really sure what you guys are expecting. It's $750. It's a budget laptop for someone who likes to watch DVD's or whatever they do on a 17" screen.

thats a really bad resolution for being 17 inches. My screen is 14 and it has a resolution of 1450x1050. I cant imagine how big everything would be being that the res is smaller but 3 inches bigger than what I have.

It's a real thing and not an april's fool as I can find it in my country :p
For such a price, that resolution is proper though for some people it can be annoying.

I don't understand why people are complaining about this. It's filling a market. There are plenty of people that want an affordable 17 inch laptop and do not want to play games.

Why such hard reviews when most people don't even play computer games. If it were a real computer I'd love it. I just like to see what I'm looking at on a computer.
