Today Toshiba refreshed the U405, M305, M305D, A355 and A305 Satellite notebooks and released three new Portege and Tecra business notebooks. The Satellite line refresh includes a slew of new enhancements, including faster processors, built-in FM-radio tuners, and even ATI Hybrid Crossfire capabilities on select notebooks. The Satellite series will also include combo USB/eSATA ports, Toshiba Face Recognition security software, and “Sleep and Charge” USB ports to charge mobile devices while the notebook is powered down. At the time of writing this news posts all of the newly refreshed models are available for purchase.
The all new 12.1” Portege R600, a replacement to the older R500, is a technology packed ultraportable notebook. With a 12.1” LED-backlit transreflective display offers saturated colors, and is sunlight viewable even in bright conditions. Toshiba also managed to squeeze a 7mm thick DVD-SuperMulti drive into the R600, so you don’t need to carry around an external USB drive to watch movies or install software. Other features include an optional 128GB SSD, enhanced EasyGuard software protection, and a redesigned chassis over the older R500. Coming in at 0.77” thick and 2.4lbs depending on configuration, the R600 Portege is one serious ultraportable notebook. Pricing starts at $2,099, and currently no release date is mentioned.
Additional new notebooks include the 12.1” Portege A600, also including an LED backlit panel and integrated optical drive. The A600 starts at 1.18” thick and 3.2lbs, offering up to 7.5 hours of battery life. The new Tecra R10 is a 14.1” workstation offering NVIDIA QUADRO graphics in a package listed at 4.4lbs and 1.13” thick. The Portege A600 starts at $1,399 and the R10 at $1,549.
