Toshiba has announced today it is recalling certain models of its Satellite, Portege and Tecra line of notebooks. In other words, every line they offer. Some models are using memory components that could cause blue screens, intermittent lockups or undetected memory data corruption. Toshiba indicates the likelihood of this happening is low, but will be initiating an exchange program at no cost to consumers. Customers who own any of the notebook PCs listedabove can download a Toshiba-developed utility that analyzes their PC's system to determine whether or not it contains the components being recalled. The utility can be downloaded from Toshiba's website or from the Toshiba websites serving each region. Alternatively, customers can also receive a copy of the utility on CD media by calling their local Toshiba customer service center. If the utility identifies the component as being contained in the customer's PC, it provides the customer with all the information required to receive a free replacement component.
