I'd say that X505 is a fail compared to Qosimo X300.. I really expected much more out of Toshiba.. Anyways , Why isn't there an SLI or CrossfireX on this notebook? Would have made it great... however , considering its price tag , i don't think we can ask for more for the same price.. X300 did cost more..

I think I'll stick with my X305-Q708 - better speakers, better GPU and I still got room left on my 128GB SSD even after a ton of software installed. Really glad I bought one while it was still available.

I was expecting SLI, if it had SLI 360m's that would be something else.

I own a X505 which I paid much closer to $1300 for (no SSD, 4GB RAM, 1680 x 945) and for the negatives I consider these speakers to be astounding. I can feel the bass through my laptop and desk when it's turned up. Also, I don't think the mouse buttons are hard to press, but they do not have much depth to them. There is a way to turn off the beeping for the media touch buttons, I called Toshiba for them to help me and now I can't remember the name of the program which did it. I do feel jipped on the port selection though. I have been able to manage about 3 hours with the eco mode - I turn everything as low as it'll go and it draws about 22 or 23 watts. Any game I've played on it has been played on max settings and the computer seems to say: "that's all you got? ZZZZzzzzz...". If there are any other questions please just send me a PM or whatever.

If the machine had SLI/CF as an option I would expect it to be a bit pricier. For the package that we got, at $1899, with the hardware it does...that's pretty good.

I'll take another look into the drivers and settings to see if anything is wrong, but there was absolutely no bass on this system whatsoever.

As far as the mouse buttons are concerned, the left one is downright difficult to work with. The right one isn't nearly as bad. That's why it got the rating that it did.

You might be drawing 25W or so, but then again you mentioned that you have a lower power configuration.

I also owned this machine, it should of had sli 360gts it would of been a pretty powerful machine and great successor from the x305, i liked the machine a lot and it had pretty good build quality but it just was too big so i traded it for a clevo lol.. The speakers were alright but the louder you raised it the more vibrations you felt more than the actually tunes you were playing.

Keep in mind please that I'm comparing it to other laptop speakers, not external ones :) and the Mouse buttons may be differing in our systems built at different times. You're right it is at the lowest, but when I'm doing that I'm just browsing the web or using MS office so it has more than enough power to handle that and I have noticed no lag when doing it.

I haven't even noticed lag playing games on the balanced profile. I'm not TOO serious of a gamer, but, the GTS360 in this is powerful, and I think that having SLi would basically only be beneficial (most of the time) for saying: I have 2 Graphics cards!. Like I said though, I don't play the sharpest games and 20 fps is fine for me.

    I realize that.

The mouse button on this system is probably just defective. But it still has to be mentioned.

    Update
I've been playing with the system all day today trying to figure out why the speakers might not be rendering bass, if it were a software issue (it would not be the first software or driver issues which is why we complained about bloatware and support).

After a complete factory reset, lo and behold we are getting some bass. I wouldn't say that it is as strong as the treble range audio, nor the quality as good as treble, but the bass is clear and crisp...this does revise my rating upwards on this notebook.

I'm going to see about getting a quick update posted on the main review page.

Interesting that some of Toshiba's offerings of the past several months with Win 7 on them seem to be having trouble both with the mouse buttons and the sound. In reading the criticism about the Toshiba I have these were the main "negatives" for it as well.

In my case as regards the sound card driver it required an uninstalling of the specific driver and letting the MS driver be in charge ... the sound performance was like night and day.

Any idea what happened to make the sound noticeably different with the complete factory reset? I mean ... I assume it would be the same driver in both cases?

I'm glad to hear that! I'm sorry the system had to be reset however to produce that, which should not be necessary. I agree about the mouse button being worthy to be mentioned. Sorry if I came off resoundingly defensive... I just feel that this is a very good system. Thank you for rechecking everything also.

The fact that you did, and that we spoke about the review is a step above other sites. It's nice to be able to chat with the person who wrote the review and makes it much more human and personal, always a good thing.
