Nice review as always!
Yeah the dual GPU model for $1999 is the one to get.
Probably would score the same in the game tests used for this review. Only Far Cry 2 really uses the extra cores at this time. -
hm...No 3dMark06 ???
I examined this notebook the other day, wasn't impressed with it either. Good value for money though. -
nice review, thanks
-
As always, Chaz..fantastic review & pics

Just looking at this laptop the word "HOLY CRAP" keeps on flashing in my head...........in a good way of course
-
After reading this review, I just can't help but find the X305 the single most dissapointing notebook I've seen for the price. $4K and bloatware? Reeeally? Add to the fact there is no customization options, so if you really hate the "red flame" motiff then you're out of luck. For $4K I should able to customize the look.
What's worse? In my experience, Toshiba laptops have had the most bloatware out of any laptop you can buy. I say this as a former X205 and Tecra M7 owner. Their apps are useful, but even on a fast machine are laggy, slow and hog entirely too many resources. I'll never go back to Toshiba again. -

3DMark06 = 12243 :smile:
This particular Q708 model isn't a good value for the money. The 'lower end' ones, yes (=>$2k).
-
Yes, the Q706 model is a better value than this Q708 model. The only differences between the two are the extra SSD and Core 2 Extreme processor in the Q708 and you can buy two Q706's for the Q708's price.
I bet you could add the Core 2 Extreme processor and SSD to the Q706 and still be cheaper than the Q708. -
I've always been a fan of Oosmio designs but this latest one...ugghhh...I'm sure someone somewhere likes it.
-
What is up with the date on this? It says January 1, 1900 at the top of the review page.

Entirely True Fact: H.G. Wells penned the novel The Time Machine on his Toshiba X305 back in 1895, powering the device using an ingenious combination of water wheel and an electromagnet pioneered by Edison. However, due to transportation issues at the time review samples were delayed significantly, causing reviewers to get their machines years later. -
Or do you mean your opinion "did a 180" and has completely gone the opposite direction?
Or did it actually do a 360, and moonwalk away from its prior location?
(Just picking nits, don't mind me.) -
Good review and great advice.
-
I disagree Chaz. If you adjust the price for inflation, bottom line and our current economic times, $4200 for this notebook is a great value!
-
Wow $4200 is a crazy price to pay for that laptop and the 128GB SSD is actually slower than my 7200rpm 320gig hdd. Great review though!

actually i would take this AN YDAY over that ridculous like $6000 alienware i like Q706 though, i wonder what the screen quality is like on that one? Either way if anyone here is like me they hook there notebook up to a 1080p tv and use the 1920 x 1080 on the screen. Games also fully go to 1920 x 1080 when you do this.

What's up with the design? Is that the "Muscle" pattern?
The speakers are hideous, too. And the side view just about made me lose my dinner. Something a little more refined or classy (even in a wicked gaming sort of way) would have been my preference. :GEEK: -
It's disappointing, those cheap flexing keyboards. I saw a video on another Qosmio review that demonstrated the problem. It is disappointing and, for a $4200 laptop, even insulting. At least Alienware's wallet destroyers don't have build quality issues, as far as I know.
Great review though! -
I really haven't been hearing good things of the keyboards on all of Toshiba's recent consumer notebooks.
-
Interesting review. I've also done a detailed review of this model:

Didn't mean to have it come out the same day as this - sorry guys! Chaz, want to give some feedback on my review?
I didn't find any problems with the keyboard, and the bloatware can be turned off/deleted. Agreed though, it is an overinflated price. -
The only things missing from this notebook are gold plated rims and furry dice.
-
Nice review Chaz. Hey do you guys get to keep the review system or what?
-
Whoa, that thing is thicker than the Sager np9262.....
I never thought I'd see the day. -

Thanks for the feedback on the review.

This has to be the ugliest notebook I've seen in a while. -
-
This thing wouldn't be so bad if the flame design was ditched, the SSD was replaced with a 320gb 7200rpm, the screen res bumped to 1200p, and the GTS's replaced with dual GTX's... all for the same price.
-
-
I could live with the design, even though it is enough to make small children cry, because it fits one of my main criteria for gaming laptops: Must be flashy and shout "Look at me". If it does that then I can forgive a lot.
However, combined with the relatively weak graphics cards and the lower-res screen I really can't see how this is worth the price; even in the UK £2200 for those specs is a rip-off. -
I love my Toshiba Satellite with the cool fingerprint reader. I'm in the market for a new laptop but can't decide if it will be another Toshiba. In reading this review and the details, I'm not impressed and the over $4k price is not cool, imo.
Thanks for the review. I don't think I'll give much thought to this one at all. -
Unless it has been already stated, the Qosmio doesn't have 3 fans, just 1.
