Would have been a solid review if it weren't for using Toshiba's stock pictures. Everybody wants to see in person photos.

How heavy is it in reality: "a little more than 3.3 pounds" reads like advertising speak for 4 lbs.

Also, how is the fan noise when under load? My experience of the R500 and the R700 is that they were both whiners.

The whole machine seems unimpressive compared to what you can get in an Ultrabook, the exception being port selection where these Portege models win by a substantial margin. The Portege Z935 Ultrabook seems like a much more attractive choice:
    Toshiba Portege Z935-ST3N01 Ultrabook
It has a crappy 1366x768 resolution like the R930 though. And neither of Toshiba's offerings have a touch screen ...

The R930 actually starts at $899.99; currently Toshiba is running a discount making it $829.99. Nonetheless the model you reviewed still stands at $1,699.99. It adds over the base model: an i7-3520M dual-core processor (over i5-3210M), a 128GB SSD (over 750GB 5400RPM drive), a 3-yr warranty (over 1-yr), a fingerprint reader and an ExpressCard slot yet has half the RAM, 4GB instead of 8GB. I'm in full agreement that I just don't see the value proposition.
