<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-10-05T10:25:00 -->Join us in a live video webcast on October 10th as we link up with Lenovo to celebrate 15-years of the ThinkPad! We'll be looking at previously released and unreleased ThinkPad models to see how this venerable line of notebooks has evolved. ThinkPad product designers will be on hand to take us back in time and also field email questions from our dear readers. As an added bonus, if you register to watch ThinkLive you're eligible to win an exclusive ThinkPad Reserve notebook valued at a cool $5,000.
So, here are the quick details on the ThinkLive event and your official party invite:
What? Lenovo and NotebookReview.com will present the ThinkLive live video webcast celebrating the 15th anniversary of the ThinkPad. We'll be taking a look at older ThinkPad models -- some of which were sold, and some of which never did quite make it onto shelves. Then we'll see how the current ThinkPad models have built upon and improved from the way things were. At the end of the ThinkLive event we'll invite people to submit via email any ThinkPad related questions they might have. For those that register and watch, be it live or later on, you will be automatically entered to win a ThinkPad Reserve notebook in a drawing that will occur at the end of the month.
When? October 10th at 2:00 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. GMT). If you happen to have work during this hour, we'll archive the video so you can watch it later of course.
Where? Register here and you'll get access to the video cast page location and an email providing the link to it
How? All you'll need is a web browser and Real Player to watch the event. After registering for ThinkLive there will be instructions and a system test to see if your computer is ready-to-go for watching the video.
Why? We'll give three reasons for why you should register and watch: 1) So you can win a $5,000 ThinkPad Reserve leather clad notebook. If you register and watch, then you're entered for the drawing that will occur at the beginning of November (contest rules here). 2) ThinkPads have been around for 15 years and not once did the black color change, the sheer consistency is worth celebrating. 3) We're doing this Live, so anything could happen!
We look forward to the event and hope you'll join us for a trip down memory lane to see how things have gone from this 486SLC2 25/50Mhz CPU, 8MB memory, 120 MB hard drive capacity ThinkPad 700c seen here:
to the 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 120GB hard drive thin-and-light ThinkPad T61 seen here:
And don't forget by registering you can win this ThinkPad Reserve Edition notebook (please see contest rules):

This should be really fun for not just ThinkPad enthusiasts, but for anyone who appreciates notebooks and their heritage. Plus you get a shot to win a pretty sweet notebook as well, so that's good.
-
Too bad it's US only for the laptop =/
I'm still gonna watch though -
If you win, you can give it to me
-
wow, I would love to watch it
-
-
Sure, pay around 1500 for the ticket, plus some other expenses...either way you win a free trip to the US .
-
Seriously. I mean damn, talk about a $5k laptop that pays for itself instantly.
-
Interesting. The Thinkpad Reserve definitely looks like Lenovo's answer to professionals always on the go. Even with the leather cladding, I'd imagine it runs pretty cool with a C2D L7500. I like the 7 hours of battery life estimate.......

It says US only but on the register site there is a box for country.
Hmmm
Is it really US only? -
I think anyone can register to watch, but only for US resident if you WIN the notebook.
-
Sorry, I should have posted a link to the full rules earlier:

Hey guys don't forget to cover the PC110. That was probably the coolest "laptops" I ever owned.

You need to be logged in and watching when they announce the winner during the live cast to be eligible to win?
I can't do that at work... Darn it... -
I have family living in america. Is it possible for me to enter the contest if I use their address? I really liked the Thinkpad.
-
...and Real Player to watch the event---
stopped reading right there. -
You can use WMP is you use IE.
-
The winner is not from teh live event, it's anyone that watches live or the archive. Winner will be emailed and announced here on Nov 5th.
-
Great!
I'll watch the archived videocast then. -
Sweet! None of my classes are in session at that time!
Campus-wide WiFi ftw! -
I'd love to see another prize... a brand new, sealed original thinkpad 700C classic.
Serial # 000001

Had this event not come up I probably would never have considered owning a Lenovo. Being as I'm going to become a "professional" in a matter of months (interviewing for entry-level career stuff now) this does look quite appealing. I've signed up and will attend.

Call me crazy, but I find the history more interesting than the laptop. At first a $5000 laptop sounded like a good incentive, but after seeing the specs, I decided in all likelihood I'd be much happier with my $1700 Dell ($1850 w/Office) - battery life is lower, but I like the screen size better and the specs are higher for 1/3 the price. Admittedly the design isn't as good, and a ThinkPad Reserve would give me the most distinctive laptop on campus by a good margin, but ultraportables aren't my thing. If it were a T61 workstation I might be up for it, but instead...I'll increase everyone else's odds for this one.
-
hope its not US only for the laptop, Im just not able to get to US like that
-
I registered, but the "Test Your System" test fails. I already have Windows Media Player 11 installed, but it says I don't. I'm running Windows Vista Business.
I assume the test is bad and that I will be able to watch the event?
Here is the error message:
In order to provide an optimal experience listening to and/or viewing webcasts, we recommend the following media player plug-ins:
# Windows Media Player 10 or higher supported by your operating system
# RealPlayer 10 or higher supported by your operating system
. Click on one of the icons to download Windows Media Player or Real Player. -
The test you system seem a bit weird. I have more than enough bandwith, yet I failed the the test.

i'll bet all that leather must hurt air ventilation, ? hehehe
i worked for ibm for 8 years, my first computer was the 755 C lol, didnt even support a CD rom!

i'd love to win this contest and throw it in their faces, lol -
Calm down orsteez! I would win this and sell it later for something else anyway.(A new XPS m1730!
-
I'll pass.
-
Edit: I know, you sneaky son of a gun. You're trying to get all us international guys not to sign up so you have a better chance of winning -
Andrew's like a friggin millionaire...He doesn't need to win a 5k laptop.
-
So would a Puerto Rico address be valid?
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
Not US, US owned, but not the country itself
-
Is there a cost for shipping?
-
Great, I got an exam on October 10, from 1:30 to 2:45 EST
Anyone know about how long the event is going to be? -
Celebrating 15 years of black :roll eyes:
Btw , is it trolling to say its only a 2000$ laptop in a bag previously owned by a cow ? -
