HP has been through some rough waters lately, with questions surrounding its commitment in the area of smartphones and rumors swirling about related to its PC business. While all of this is great fodder for the industry pundits and competition, one thing can be said about HP with great conviction: The company knows how to wrap innovation around computer systems.

    I got quoted!

...but no mention in the article about how we still don't know which GPU it has? I've never seen another company release a computer with a dedicated GPU without saying which model GPU it has (and even giving different answers to different people who call in to ask).

Seriously, HP's webpage just says it has AMD graphics with 1 GB of memory, but don't say which AMD GPU it is, and people who have called in and asked have gotten different answers. It's been on sale for about a week, I think. I think a growing concensus on the interwebz is that it's a 7690, but HP has never actually told us that, to my knowledge.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I think the Envy 15 is a solid package, and I've recommended it more than once to people already, but there's really nothing "innovative" about it. It's a good screen and respectable performance components inside the most profoundly-derivative case I've seen in a long time. It's look isn't innovative, and it's features aren't innovative. Good buy, yes. Innovative, not at all.

*If* it has a good battery life, I can't think of a lot of laptops in the same price range/category that would have an combination of IPS screen (there is nothing in this category with "officially" an IPS screen) / better sound quality.

I have the Envy 15 2160SE (actually haven't used it due to plans to sell it), but man, it is quite the notebook.

I have a feeling HP is going to dissapoint with the GPU, why keep it a secret?

I got quoted too, I feel so excited! :wideeyed:

Anyway, has anyone bought it yet? Aspernatio said he is ordering his on December 7th... could you tell us what GPU you have once you get it?

Yeah ... battery life and an IPS screen at an inexpensive price would be preferred. The Lenovo X220 I have right now was a pretty good example of that....

Be nice to see more "general packages" of that sort, and if HP can make one all the power to them.
