Targus is well known for their notebook accessories. We always have good things to say about the quality and build of their products. With that said, lets see how durable and functional the Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection power strip is. The compact design caught my eye from the start, but lets check out what else makes it practical.

    Travel Power Outlets Specs:

    • Four grounded 3-prong type power plug with surge protection and an 8" power cable
    • Maximum Electrical Rating: 125V, 10A
    • Maximum current surge handling: 300 joules
    • Built-in over-current protection with manual resettable button
    • Dimensions: 5.5" x 1.25" x 1.0"
    • Weight: 0.5lbs

    Design and Build

The Targus Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection is a portable power strip that provides four outlets. It's perfect for traveling. The power strip makes it possible to plug in several devices when only one outlet may be available like in a hotel room or airport.

I have been there before, especially at the airport. This way mobile professionals can plug in their Tablet PCs, cell phones or digital camera batteries all at once.

Targus's Power Outlet is the only travel size power strip currently available that features surge protection to help keep those gadgets protected from unexpected surges and spikes. It also has a built-in reset button and copper lined plug holes for better connectivity. There isn't anything cheap about this portable power strip.

The outlets are designed to accommodate larger plug sizes as well, so you don't have to worry about your gadget plugging in and getting charged. The compact design makes it great for carrying to and from classes, work or on vacation.

Since it weighs almost nothing and has such a small design it fits conveniently in any luggage or backpack. Even the eight-inch power cord folds up nicely plugging in to the top outlet for a seamless design.

    Conclusion

The Targus Travel Power Outlets are ideal for traveling professionals, students or anyone in need of additional power outlets to safely power or charge their electronics. It doesn't take up any room in your bag and is even small enough to fit in a large purse. It is made of hard plastic, so the design is solid enough to take the bumps and bruises of your daily grind. Trust me, this power strip doesn't mind being dropped on the floor.

    Pros

    • Lightweight compact design
    • Great for traveling, provides 4 outlets
    • Copper-lined outlet holes
    • Reset button

    Cons

    • Cord isn't very long, but keeps the design compact
    • Recessed reset button can be hard to push

    Pricing and Availability

The Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection is available now from Targus for $19.99. In my opinion this is a good deal for any user who is on-the-go often. I mean, how do you pass up a portable power strip with surge protection, especially considering its size and the fact there isn't an annoying cord to tie up.

Nice review. Thats a nice little power strip - if I start doing more traveling I will most certainly pick one up.

Unfortunately you don't list the specs as dual-voltage capable. That would make this a must-have for me - without, it's not good for any sort of international travel (where I would find this form factor most handy).

Its a very nice powerbar. Perhaps Targus can make it better by loosing one socket and building in 2 5V USB charging slots. and even better, make it possible sockets to accept multiple plug types.

Obviously it would be nice for Targus to do 110/220v.....After all, its a Travel surge/powerbar....but it looks good value for 20bux.

All these years of traveling, I've yet to find a perfect travel powerbar, hopefully targus/belkin would make a better one.
