Well beyond multi-touch capability, Scrybe allows users to initiate complex PC tasks with simple TouchPad interaction. For example, Synaptics claims through Scrybe users could highlight a word in a document and then launch a Web browser and perform an immediate search by merely drawing a question mark on the TouchPad.<o></o>

Other new TouchPad functions available in Gesture Suite 9.4 include multi-touch gestures for media control (play, stop, rewind, fast forward), and Windows 7 System gestures.<o></o>

Synaptics claims that Scrybe will work with many current multi-touch and single-touch TouchPads. The technology is currently available at the Scrybe site (http://www.uscrybe.com/) for Windows and Linux users to preview for themselves. <o></o>

The entire Synaptics Gesture Suite 9.4 is available to PC OEMs through Synaptics.<o></o>

I agree it's high time Synaptics touchpads were updated, but I'm not too sure about the multi-touch functions. Sounds sort of goofy and Apple-like, and I prefer using shortcut keys, which I expect are about as fast as multi-touch gestures.

On the other hand, maybe it would grow on me, having a touchpad with weird patterns programmed into it, but even "tap zones" annoy me. I hope they at least allow you to disable certain functions.

I'm confused by this. I've watched the Synpatics videos about this and every one shows Scrybe being used on a multitouch keyboard, but they say this can work with a single point, older touchpad. If I can't do a three finger tap how will I launch this thing. The whole thing seems a bit gimmicky to me. It seems Synaptics wants to make my computer usage better but I want speed and efficiency and there is no way this will be faster than using shortcut keys on my keyboard and using my mouse.

I agree with everything you said.

As a heads up I tried using this with my T400 which does not support Multitouch (...well actually, rumor is it uses the same touchpad as the multi-touch-enabled T400s but the multi-touch capabilities are disabled at BIOS level ) I was not able to activate Gestures - all I got was a bloated version of the previous driver.

That feature-disabling really pisses me off... when an old Pentium 3 laptop can do basic 2-finger detection, and yet my Core 2 Duo laptop can't.... that's pretty miserable fail.

I mean, sure, HP didn't want to pay for the gestures... but they should give the end-user a way to pay to enable the damn multi-touch features!

Edit: "They" being Synaptics, specifically.
