Steve Jobs, the man who is largely credited with resurrecting Apple in the 1990s, has officially resigned as CEO of Apple. This news was comes with little surprise: When the former Apple CEO was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004, rumors immediately began to circulate that his resignation was only a matter of time.
Indeed, based on Jobs' own words in the official press release, it appears that his decision to step down is the direct result of complications related to his pancreatic cancer and liver transplant combined with his visibly deteriorating health.

I wonder if Apple will crash like they did the last time he left =/. A part of our generation is going away with him. Even thou I've never been a fan of Apple product, I respect the fact that they pushed the computer world forward.

The stock is already taking a hit. I know there is still a small army of geniuses at Cupertino and Apple will move forward ... but it will be interesting to see what direction comes from the new CEO and whether we see a major or minor change in the way Apple handles announcements and releases of new hardware, software and services.

The small hit on the stock price goes to show how much people trust in a company's leader, particularly in Steve Jobs. However, he has been out of the picture for the last 8 month attending to his health and the company has been operating as usual. It will be hard for Tim Cook to measure up to the calibur of Steve Jobs who was both an innovator and a business man. He created a demand for products consumers didn't realize they needed or wanted. He is the Thomas Edison of this era.
-
uhhh...a bit much, no? -
Edison was an inventor and sold most of his ideas, even in an intervew in the 80's Jobs admitted it was better to rip off an idea and improve upon it.
the two men can not be really compared at all. -
Well like it or not every person has an expiry date which means their career also does. If it wasn't now, Jobs would've eventually have to step down as CEO of Apple for one reason or another so that's just how life(and business) flows.
We'll see how Apple handles itself without him, but hey, it was bound to happen eventually. -
My experience with game changing events like this in the stock market has been that it ain't over till it's over, and in the case of Apple, wait a couple of earnings reporting cycles and/or until Jobs is fully gone and see what happens.
After all, EVERYONE has said(repeatedly) how much he matters to Apple. If so, his departure must mean a decline or a slowing of progress, righto? -
Best wishes to Steve Jobs in his fight against pancreatic cancer.
As for Apple, I'm not expecting the change in figureheads to mean a drastic change in company policy. Companies that big just aren't run by one person like a giant sole proprietorship. Even if they have a charismatic figurehead, committees and underlings are responsible for most of the products, the design philosophy, etc. -
SJ was a different type of individual who gave a product a different spin and made it work. Some of the design ideas Jonathan Ive came up with were later changed by SJ in particular the original iPod.
That's a special gift the man has, to convert an idea into a product that becomes a massive hit. Down the road Apple will surely miss that but for now they should be marching along without a hiccup. -
HOORAY! Maybe apple will be good again...
But on a serious note hope the medical issues arent too bad. -

If these pictures are to be believed then it's not looking good for Steve Jobs and TMZ is pretty accurate even though they are dirtbags IMO.
