If its like the T series you may be able to customize with ssd. To bad about the battery life that is a deal breaker. One thing I really like is Sony still offering optical drive option. This just needs ips, haswell, and some jbl speakers. I find it sad oems coming out with weak ivy bridge offerings so close to haswell release. I really want to buy a w8 machine but must wait. Sony really needs to kill off the tn panels already. The T series had horrid viewing angles. This ones probably not much better.

 

This is a cheaper option than the S15, not a replacement for the S15. So if you want IPS display, sheet-battery option, and cutting-edge processors, go with the S15.

I think it's fantastic that Sony is purging 1366x768 from even their entry-level 14" and 15" models. Once the Fit replaces the current E, you will not be able to buy a single Vaio with a 1366x768 screen, even their cheapest models. It'll all be 900p and 1080p. I'm not sure that there's a single other manufacturer out there (at least on the US market) that can claim that.

 

If Sony uses the GT 730m and haswell on the S13/S15 or Fit then i'm all for it and if not, Sayonara bye bye!

 

Feature-wise, this is an average laptop with a higher than average price but I won't say it has a comfortable keyboard. It has a flaw common to many 15" Windows laptops: it's got a number pad so to keep the touchpad aligned with the space bar they placed it way too much to the left. You end up with the right hand sitting exaclty at the half of the screen and the nose pointing to one third of the screen from the left. Not ideal. Apple got it right: their 15" model has no number pad and the touch pad is in the middle of the case. I think that number pads don't belong to laptops unless they let us shift the screen to the left. Maybe an idea for a new Yoga

 

Nice review. I actually am less put off by the price. I have always found Sony to be over priced historically. I believe you guys when you say a bit pricy but compared to the past I find much more in line. Years back Sony had a large presence in the 13" class. DeLL had the 1330 I think and Sony had many models. In both specs and aesthetics Sony rocked but price was to be kind nothing short of obscene. But in that class if money was no object they really could not be beat. So even back then with their 13.3" offering top level in class performance. In contrast their 15.6" offered nothing. They were middle spece'd at best. So once again I am absolutely not taken aback by this. I am actually maybe even impressed. I think mostly on the aesthetic front. It looks sharp to me. But as pointed out above it is not intended to compete against the "S" series. Explains why the spec's might be as they are.

Just to be clear I would not put out my hard earned cash for this. I personally don't like the spec's I want more. But I would guess if the form was desirable to others not the worst purchase decision even if a tad over priced.

Pure opinion here but I must say I so love Samsung. Not for the reasons you might think. I like them for knocking Sony off the golden perch they created for themselves in the consumer electronics niche. You know the one where anything with their name had a 10%/20% mark up for name alone. I guess I should respect them and they should be studied in business classes for running that "Trinitron" thing for all it was worth. Talk about beating a dead horse. They dragged that horse darn near from the grave. I even feel they dug it up a couple of times. I don't have a Samsung notebook so that is not where my love comes from. My love comes from the fact that someone finally took that dead horse called "Trinitron" and stole and buried it. Sony is now a mid range consumer electronics manufacturer in both size and products. Not the self appointed "king" with a strangle hold on electronics.

I used to call Sony the Apple of the PC world. I must admit I no longer think of them as such. I really am impressed with some of their offerings. I hope they continue to get better and remain a competitor in the current market.

To OP you have a typo. You keep dropping one of the "3" from the CPU model number.

 

I do believe this is a replacement for the S-series, as the S-series is no longer available in my country, so IPS is gone.

 

I think that the Fit line of laptops from Sony is meant to replace both the S and the E series. If you think about it, the Fit E line replaces the E series, and the Fit line simply replaces the S series since they're more premium and have better styling (a case that is similar to the S series vs. the E series).

EDIT: that being said, I hope to God that Sony still plans on updating or coming out with a powerhouse machine. They knocked off their F series 2 years ago and claimed that the S15 was its replacement, so I really hope that Sony offers quad-core CPUs with decent 750 level gfx cards. So far, between the Tap 20, Duo 11/13, and Fit(E) 14/15 it seems as if Sony has only come out with ULV products (this is under the assumption that the S, T, and E series are being phased out). They really need a powerhouse computer to compete with the likes of the 15.6" Series 7 from Samsung, the Asus Zenbook Prime UX51vz, and the rMBP.

 

Finally seen the laptop at Sony store. Screen was disturbingly dull even with the maximum brightness. I don`t know how long more I should wait for the new Vaio series. They did not announce anything good since the F series.

Also, Fit Premium is expensive and better than Fit E. However Fit E has a better video card. Sony is messing up big time!! None of the reps were able to answer this question.

 

What? I like the Vaio F--I own an F23 myself--but Sony has introduced plenty of good models since it.

The Fit E has a thicker case than the Fit Premium, thus more room for cooling, thus it can run a more powerful GPU. But neither of these are really gaming-oriented.

 

I am using sony vaio. I got fan problem long time before. They solved the problem without charge. Right now I have some problem with screen But I am still very happy with it.I am habitual to it. Battery is better than dell. Audio quality is also good.

 

Hello, I read some time ago that NVIDIA's video cards 8400GS/GT and 8600GS/GT had serious deffects due to poor cooling, which resulted in burning out of the chipset in the short span of 8 to 24 months....
Do you think that the present NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 735M in FIT 15 is out of this problem?
