Other than the dedicated "Memory Stick" slot, which is only useful is you own a Sony camera, it's had to see any selling points? Kudos to Sony for throwing in an ExpressCard slot, although few consumers now want one, or even know what it's for.

Of course, the real killer here is the battery life. I honestly can't figure out what the precise WHr capacity of the battery is, and Sony's own website doesn't offer up that embarassing tidbit, but we can fairly assume that it's a weak battery, hence the poor battery life. It's a shame that a laptop in this size category has a 3.5 hour battery life. Is it any wonder that consumers keep on flocking to MacBooks?

Overall, any consumer with 1980s and 90s nostalgia will associate the Sony brand with reliability and quality. Of course, anyone who's a bit younger won't remember Sony's much vaunted reputation for consumer electronics. To Generation Y, Sony is a dusty but trusty brand that simply seems clueless in comparison to Apple. Personally, I hope Sony can manage a turnaround. The first step might be to get out of the PC business.

Doesn't this offer a higher res 1600x900 display like the CW series before it? That is kind of a rare option for a 14in laptop, no?

In Europe and Asia the EA comes with a 1600x900 screen.
