I am a college student looking for a good, reliable laptop. I've really been looking into the CR... but after I read these reviews/posts, I'm feeling a bit unsure about it.

Does the battery problem only occur if you get the larger battery? So, if I were to just stick with the standard battery size that it comes with... I shouldn't have any worry that it will 'wiggle' out or anything?

Tell me if this is a good laptop for me... if not, give me suggestions on any other reliable laptops suitable for college students, please!

I saw this laptop tonight at a Sony Store near where I live. I like the style of the thing but does it worth the price of USD $800 at bestbuy?

    Im interested in this laptop

Just bought this notebook for my wife, it's the latest revision CR323.
    Pros:
    - Sexay lookin'. Similar to white macbook as everyone has pointed out
    - AV Mode is a nice feature.
    - Nice keyboard design
    Cons:
    - AV Mode can only browse in users\public folder. Probably due to security.
    - Can't type fast on keyboard, for some reason it doesn't register the repeated key occasionally.
    - inbuilt camera quality not as great as cheap dedicated external webcam.

I will be buying a macbook for myself soon, so both notebooks will look great when we're out using it :D

Just bought a nice Sangria Sony Vaio CR laptop for my daughter for college. I bought a VGN-CR508E/RC with Vista Home Preium w/SP1. On the side I bought Vista Ultimate thinking that I could just update the system right after I bought it. Why do you ask? I live in a bilingual household and my daughter is going to a Japanese college.

Ultimate lets me switch the menus and such that home premium will not.

Well, much to my chagrine, Ultimate wouldn't install. It got most of the way through and then said it couldn't complete because it couldn't configure a couple of components (it didn't say which ones). I had run the Vista Advisor on it before hand and it said everything looked good to go.

After running through the motions twice I contacted Sony via their online help Chat.

His answer: The laptop doesn't support Vista Ultimate.

I'm confused. If it supports Home Premium, why wouldn't it support Ultimate?

I didn't get much of an answer. He referred me to their web page and basically said that because there's no "option" for Ultimate, that the machine doesn't support it. That seems pretty weak. If a machine has a Vista logo on it, shouldn't it support all versions of Vista?

Is it normal for a machine to support one version of Vista and not Ultimate?
    Sony wasn't much help.
