the Vaio S was released over a year ago with the same specs..I guess this means it's no longer Best Buy exclusive in the USA which means it's now configurable
-
I thought I read when the S was announced like last year it was suppose to come with the optional nvidia gpu, is that still the case?
-
Yes it already does come with an optional Nvidia GPU, im guessing the specs they listed are just for the base model, you can configure it higher than that
-
The vaio YB seems like a perfect machine to me. 550 dollars is nothing (thats like 400€, but even if the price will be 600€ it would still be a very nice deal in the Belgium market, though even that seems a bit too optimistic).
Does anyone have any idea how this new APU is 'positioned' regarding raw processing power? Can we describe it as ... a very powerfull netbook (compared to atoms dual core cpu's), or a very weak laptop processor (compared to intels cpu's, both low and normal volted).
I'm also wondering what the graphics are capable off, I know that amd's highest apu's will have the same graphics power of an ati hd 5650 or something, but I have no clue of the weakest graphics power (will it be comparable to intels SB integrated graphics which are +- equal to an nvidia gt310m) -
Sony also "supposedly" announced a Sony Z successor known as the Sony SA. ATI switchable graphics, sandy bridge, USB 3.0, etc. but almost all tech websites didn't have pictures of it and they all suddenly got rid of mentioning the SA.

this is the most info ive been able to find about it: Sony VAIO SA Series: Hands-On | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

I'm so exited about these new fusion based products -
The discussion that is going on the Sony forums brings the point up the SA could be replacing the Vaio Y, which had the ulv i core cpu, an optional ATI 4330 gpu, ssd, and a premium model before it was discontinued. I guess the YA is being designated to only the 11.6in model.
-
I think sony discontinued the 13.3" Y because they already have the 13.3" S..unless the SA is replacing the S
-
Well the Y lack and optical drive and both the SA and S have it, so does the Z.
-
That would be amazing! But it's actually 240 Hz. -

Miles ahead of the GMA HD though nothing to write home about.
BTW I'm not trying to trash-talk the YB series. Might be getting one myself if the new S series is not worth the premium. -
so...technically speaking aside from Vaio 3D F series (shown at IFA 2010 first) Sony didn't show any new (working) laptop whatsoever?! Quite lame...
-
well most of their notebooks just had a recent refresh so it would be a few months before they come up with new stuff
