Sony just released the new VAIO TT notebook, which is pretty substantial update to the older TZ model. Offering HDMI output, dual SSD options with RAID, an internal Blu-ray, and a much needed processor refresh this model is ready to take anything you throw at it. While it does seem slightly bulkier than the super thin TZ, we can't complain much considering it still weighs less than 3lbs and is still under an inch thick.
Specifications:
- Intel SU9300 and SU9400 Core 2 Duo processors clocking in at 1.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
- Intel X4500MHD Integrated Graphics
- 11.1" 1366 x 768 LED Backlit XBRITE Display
- Up to 4GB of DDR3 Memory
- 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0
- DVD-R and BD-R capabilities on upper models (some are only BR-ROM)
- Sprint WWAN Rev A
- Dimensions: 10.99" x 0.93" x 7.87"
- Weight: 2.87lbs
Prices start at $2,000 for models not equipped with a Blu-ray drive, but if you really want the full package you are looking at a minimum of $2,700. I can't wait to get one of the new Sony VAIO TT subnotebooks in the office to play around with, considering it is in the same size range as many netbooks, but has the capabilities to output 1080p from a Blu-Ray movie. Look for this model in stores sometime this fall.

This looks sick!I want one...Kevin,can I play with it after you?

What I want to know is how they fit an optical drive and two hard drives in an 11.1-inch notebook. Most 12-inch notebooks don't even have an optical drive, let alone two hard drives. I'm sure the smaller processor helps, but it doesn't seem plausible that it could make that big of a difference. All I can figure is it's either 1.8-inch SSD's, or a choice of dual hard drives or an optical drive.

Very hot looking, though I do think the naming is somewhat unfortunate.
-
Very nice looking, but they should the remove the red around the screen (inside shot)
-
LMAO at the price...sony can't really be serious can they?

Wait? Are you sure that red thing isn't an Inspiron Vaio 1110 or something?
And I was complaining about the FW and Z before, now this is a real aesthetic disaster... -
That's just nuts. Given my experience with ultraportable notebooks though, I imagine that is going to be one *hot* notebook. Literally and figuratively.
-
Clean flush lines at the edges. Very nice looking notebook. But 2000$+? That's madness.

The red around the display on the inside makes it look like a toy, albeit a very expensive toy.
The storage is probably 1.8". The pre-order site shows a 160GB HDD option (this is the current upper limit for 1.8" or, for the rich, 256GB SSD (which I deduce is 2 x 128GB).
Sony will be keen to push Blu-Ray, but it seems that some notebook manufacturers are in no hurry to adopt this technology.

Regarding "pushing" Blu-Ray, Sony would do a better job if they actually offer the BD drive with the other models, as opposed to having it only for the 4000$ model.
-
It looks good and to be honest I'm not sure now if I should get a Z or the TT? -
Now, that's really "out of touch"... Do they seriously believe there is going to be a good market for $4,500 ultra-portables, especially in the next year?
-
Only a Sony sheep would buy an ultraportable that expensive! Is the size/weight of a regular notebook too much of a burden? Well, if you've got money to burn...
-
Its 1 pound heavier then a toshiba R500 with a 12,1" screen...I dont get it.
Plus you pay A LOT for the brand...
Im on a fujitsu Q2010, which cost 4000€ back when I bought it, but it was revolutionary.
I bought the R500 because of the DVD-drive, but still use my Q more. Its all about the size - and the TT is just too big for an 11" notebook.
Just my 2 cents
PS:It is definitely a great machine - no doubt. -
256GB of solid state goodness and a Blue-Ray drive!!!!!

This notebook is brilliant. The red around the edge is weird, and perhaps a gray or silver would have been better (or perhaps a color choice???). Sony maybe looking to release a notebook cheaper than the TT targeting the higher end of the netbook market to replace the UX (which is pretty much ignored as a netbook).
-
like someone said, it does look like dell notebook..
anyway, the specs is just awesome for the ultra-portable notebook.
thanks for the update, Kevin! -
Looks bigger than my TZ. I hope it "moves" faster. I still take about 5minutes to load up where the harddrive quits accessing. Granted I have 2gb ram/vista/and the slow 4200rpm HD. But still, waiting for it to boot up is nuts.
-
Another culprit is the immense amount of bloatware Sony installs on their notebooks, especially the lower end TZs croak under Vista and all the Sony bloatware.
If you get rid of the bloatware, especially do a clean install of Vista, things will also be faster. -
I wonder if Audi knows about this one.
I must say though, it looks amazing. I really like the gold coloured one, for some reason - almost like the gold CR series that I also really liked, even though I absolutely hated the CR series as a whole. -

Loving what I see here, except for the colors
hopefully there will be an all black choice offered
I would opt for the 256 SSD..wow... -
To me this is some sorta ridiculous joke to be honest. Perhaps sony doesn't know this but we're kinda in a recession right now.
The most I'd spend on any notebook is $2,500. Anymore and peace.
I think sales of this laptop will be horrible... -
It looks like the Z is the better value here.
-
Sony always looks and work good for me.
-
thats how
Would love to see images and specs of the tt and tz side by side.. they look so similar..
did they keep the av mode controls from the tx and tz models or have they given that concept away all together?
