<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-09-25T15:02:51 -->Sony Electronics today unveiled the new VAIO NR series of fashionable, entry- level notebooks starting at $750 ... which is the lowest-priced notebook the company has ever introduced.
(view large image)The new series is available in three colors: "Wenge" (brown with copper accents), "Silk" (bright white with a matte finish), and "Granite" (silver). The notebooks feature a leather-like textured chassis with a slim design incorporating rounded corners and beveled edges.
The NR models feature a 15.4-inch widescreen display with XBRITE-ECO LCD (glossy screen) technology, which delivers razor-sharp details and crisp, bold colors. The notebooks also feature Intel Core 2 Duo processors (on select models) and come pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium.
As seen on other VAIO notebooks, the NR series allows you to conveniently access your music, movies, and photos thanks to an integrated A/V Mode which launches a dedicated media menu putting your entertainment within easy reach by letting quickly satisfy your entertainment needs without starting Windows.
The VAIO NR series will be available online with complete specifications listed at www.sony.com/pr/nr

This looks really nice, actually. The styling is very similar to Apple, with the rounded edges and such, and overall its a very clean design. The only thing missing is the illuminated VAIO logo.
-
Certainly looks way better than their previous N series.

Would be nice if Sony could code their website so that it doesn't crash either IE7 or Firefox. God, how I hate flash.
-
Sony's website doesn't crash either web browser, or Safari, for me...
-
No crashes at my PC..
That is what my sister is looking for.. but no mention about C2D on Japanese website -
-
nice looking
microsoft should code vista to crash whenever you go to the apple website -
Any word (or predictions) on graphics?

Looks like Sony is ripping off Apple again... It's still a nice looking series of notebooks, though.

Sony doesn't do CTO, do they?

They do CTO, but the NR won't be available in a CTO model, I think. The N wasn't, so that should be a pretty good indication. Regardless, the graphics are going to be Intel GMA X3100. Yes, that sucks, but its a Sony at $750; what did you expect?
And Laptop Mag gave this thing an Editor's Choice... Is it really that good, or just a solid value for money model (from Sony, thats almost unheard of)? I personally think the dv6500 will be a better notebook.... -

Aint this just weird or what? THe NR looks better than FZ.

For your information, I knew that Sony pioneered the keyboard that Apple now uses/has ripped off. I do remember that "toilet seat" clamshell iBook. Yes, it was ugly. But to tell you the truth, although Apple has, in fact, ripped off Sony, that doesn't mean that Sony hasn't done the same thing back. And these new VAIOs are an example of that. But they still look nice regardless. -

I'm liking these new laptops from Sony. It appears this line will replace the N line which you can find in stores on sales from time to time between 600 and 750. I expect this line will have such sales too.

don't u think it look like vostro's???
-
Looks nice but... 15.4" =
-
Lol, designs for laptop has turned into a rip off frenzy.XD

Nice design. Hope they don't continue with the 950 integrated like they did with the TZ.

i would DEFINITELY grab one of these, when are they available for purchase?

They look pretty plain IMO..?
Right now I think the HP and Asus have the nicest looking designs...(especially HP's lid designs) i dunno why everybody likes the square, rectangular, flat Apples and these plain NR's ?
ACtually, these NR's look like a mix of Apple & Dell (the beefy rounded edges and plain keyboard of the Inspiron 1520)
